Ustedes tienen que leer el periódico para saber cuán loco y tonto es el mundo, cuán fútil el heroísmo y cuán momentánea la gloria. Y después de haber evaluado la información que transmite, lo arrojan a un lado; ahora es un desabrido desperdicio. De la misma manera, deben vivir una sola vez; vivan de tal modo que nazcan solo una vez. No se enamoren del mundo hasta el punto en que su falsa fascinación los traiga una y otra vez a esta ilusoria amalgama de alegría y dolor. A menos que tomen un poco de distancia, alejándose del enredo con el mundo, sabiendo que todo es una obra teatral cuyo director es Dios, están en peligro de implicarse demasiado íntimamente. Utilicen el mundo como un campo de adiestramiento para el sacrificio, el servicio, la expansión del corazón y la limpieza de las emociones. Este es el único valor que tiene. (Divino

You have to read the newspaper to know how mad and foolish the world is; how futile is heroism and how momentary the glory. And after reviewing the information it conveys, you throw it aside; it is now a tasteless waste. So too, you should live but once; live such that you are born but once. Do not fall in love with the world so much that your false fascination brings you again and again into this delusive amalgam of joy and grief. Unless you stand back a little, away from entanglement with the world, knowing that it is all a play whose director is God, you are in danger of being too closely involved. Use the world as a training ground for sacrifice, service, expansion of the heart, and cleansing of the emotions. That is the only value it has. (Divine Discourse, Mar 28, 1967)

Durante los bhajans, todos los que cantan en coro tienen que mantener la misma melodía. Un canto discordante molestaría a los oídos. Cantar al unísono en los bhajans es una forma de disciplina. De la misma manera, en los deportes y juegos hay un árbitro para hacer cumplir las reglas del juego. Cada jugador tiene que observar estrictamente las reglas. A veces, en su entusiasmo, los jugadores no observan las reglas. Sin embargo, el árbitro se ocupa de que las reglas sean cumplidas, y los jugadores le obedecen incondicionalmente. Cualquier jugador que no obedezca estará violando las reglas del juego. Hoy, debido a que la gente no observa las reglas, ni en los deportes ni en otros ámbitos, la vida se ha hecho intolerable. Algunas personas tienen posiciones de autoridad en los negocios, en la administración o en otras instituciones. ¡Aquí también es esencial la disciplina!
Solo por tener una función de poder o autoridad, ustedes no deben comportarse como lo deseen, despreciando las reglas. (Divino Discurso, 19 de junio de 1996)

 

During bhajans, all those singing in chorus have to maintain the same tune. Discordant singing will jar on the ears. Singing in unison in bhajans is a form of discipline. Similarly, in sports and games, you have an umpire to enforce the rules of the game. Every player has to observe the rules strictly. Sometimes while playing, in their enthusiasm, the players fail to observe the rules. The umpire, however, sees to it that the rules are enforced and the players obey him implicitly. Any player who does not obey will be violating the rules of the game. Today it is because people do not observe the rules, whether in sports or elsewhere, that life has become intolerable. Some people hold positions of authority in business, in administration or in other institutions. Here also discipline is very essential! Just because you hold an office of power or authority, you should not behave as you wish, disrespecting the rules! (Divine Discourse, Jun 19, 1996)

Deben cultivar el amor hacia todos, sin importar cuán diferentes sean el carácter y la capacidad de cada uno. Aunque la misma sangre fluye por todo el cuerpo, el ojo no puede oler, el oído no puede gustar y la nariz no puede ver; no enfaticen demasiado las diferencias y disputas. Enfaticen la básica hermandad y el amor. Así como el azúcar que se ha disuelto en una taza de agua es invisible, pero puede ser experimentado por la lengua en cada gota, también la Divinidad es invisible pero inmanente, pasible de ser experimentada en cada persona, tanto si ésta se halla en lo bajo como en lo alto. Hagan Namasmarana (la reiterada rememoración del Señor) y saboreen la dulzura que existe en el corazón de cada uno; permanezcan en Su gloria y Su compasión, que son significadas por aquellos nombres. Entonces, será más fácil para ustedes visualizarlo a Él
en todos, y adorarlo a Él en todos. (Divino Discurso, 31 de julio de 1967)

 

You must cultivate love towards every one, however distinct the character and capacity of each may be. Though the same blood flows through the entire body, the eye cannot smell, the ear cannot taste, and the nose cannot see; do not over-emphasise the distinctions and quarrel. Emphasise the basic brotherhood and love. As sugar that has dissolved in the cup of water is invisible, but can be experienced by the tongue in every drop, so too the Divine is invisible but immanent; capable of being experienced, in every individual, whether he is at the bottom or on top. Do Namasmarana (repeated remembrance of the Lord) and taste the sweetness that is in the heart of every one; dwell on His glory and His compassion which those names signify. Then, it will be easier for you to visualise Him in all, to love Him in all, and to adore Him in all. (Divine Discourse, Jul 31, 1967)

Los dirigentes que formulan y promueven el sistema educativo del país son responsables por el descontento, la desilusión y los consiguientes delitos y disturbios de los estudiantes. Ellos solo prestan atención a la formación física e intelectual de los jóvenes; olvidan que también se debe prestar atención al desarrollo mental, moral y espiritual, para que pueda emerger una personalidad integrada. Actualmente, un niño es llevado a la escuela para que, años después, pueda obtener un trabajo fácil. Se piensa que la enseñanza es para ganarse la vida, no para lograr lo supremo en la vida. En ningún sitio se prepara a los jóvenes para que ganen shanti (ecuanimidad, paz); en todas partes, la meta es una vida cómoda. La búsqueda de confort, riqueza, fama y poder sobre los demás, hacen a uno tan egoísta que es un peligro para
sí mismo y para otros. El único camino seguro es buscar la dicha dentro de uno mismo, no en o a través de los demás. Hay una gran felicidad esperando a la persona que irradia compasión, verdad, paciencia, humildad, reverencia y piedad. (Divino Discurso, 30 de julio de 1967)

 

The rulers who frame and foster the educational system of the country are responsible for the discontent, disillusionment and consequent delinquencies and disturbances of the students. They pay attention only to the physical and intellectual training of the youth; they forget that attention must also be paid to mental, moral and spiritual development, so that an integrated personality can emerge. Now, a child is put to school so that years later he may get a cushy job! Schooling is thought to be for gaining a living, not for gaining the ultimate in life. Nowhere the youth are trained to earn shanti (equanimity, peace); everywhere, the aim is a comfortable life. The search for comfort, riches, fame, power over others – these make one so egoistic that one is a danger to oneself and others. The only safe path is to seek bliss within oneself, not in or through others. There is great joy awaiting the person who radiates compassion, truth, patience,
humility, reverence and piety. (Divine Discourse, Jul 30, 1967)
