Si ustedes pasan en vela las doce horas de Shivarathri debido a una enfermedad, esa vigilia no ganará Su favor. Si riñen con su cónyuge y se abstienen de comer durante un día entero, esto no quedará registrado en el libro de Dios como un ayuno. Si se pierden en las profundidades de la inconsciencia después de haber bebido, no serán contados como que han logrado el Samadhi (trance espiritual). Ningún bhokta (disfrutador) puede ser bhakta (devoto); es decir que nadie puede ser un devoto si tiene un ojo en el posible lucro derivado del servicio. Tales personas ponen al Señor por los cielos un día, y lo vituperan cuando su fortuna se seca. Atesoren en su corazón los Amrita Vakyas (mensajes que otorgan inmortalidad) que han oído en los discursos espirituales; reflexionen sobre ellos en el silencio de su meditación, y esfuércense por distinguir el precioso
objetivo de este invalorable nacimiento humano. (Discurso Divino, 19 de agosto de 1964)

 

If you keep awake throughout the twelve hours on Shivarathri due to illness, that vigil will not win His favour. If you quarrel with your spouse and desist from food for one full day, it will not be recorded in the book of God as a fast. If you lose yourself in the depths of unconsciousness after a bout of drinking, you will not be counted as a person who has achieved Samadhi (spiritual trance). No bhokta (enjoyer) can be a bhakta (devotee); that is to say, one who has an eye on the profit that can be derived from service to God cannot be a true devotee. Such people praise the Lord to the skies one day and decry Him the next when their fortune gets dry. Treasure in your hearts the Amrita Vakyas (immortality granting message) that you have heard in spiritual discourses; ponder over them in the silence of your meditation and endeavour to realise the precious goal of this invaluable human birth. Si ustedes van en peregrinación como si fueran a un pícnic, sin la necesaria preparación mental para recibir la Gracia de Dios, su viaje es sólo turismo, no para fortalecer sus inclinaciones espirituales. Su viaje es como el de una pieza postal, que colecciona impresiones en el envoltorio externo, no en el núcleo del ser interior. A una persona con discapacidad visual no le preocupa si es de día o de noche. De la misma manera, ustedes no pueden diferenciar un sitio de otro, si no permiten que la santidad actúe en sus mentes. Como resultado de los peregrinajes, sus hábitos deben cambiar para bien; su perspectiva debe ensancharse; su visión interior debe hacerse más profunda y estable. Deben darse cuenta de la omnipresencia de Dios y la unidad de la Humanidad. Deben aprender tolerancia y paciencia, caridad y servicio. Después de su peregrinación, en sus hogares, deben
repasar todas las espléndidas experiencias, y tomar la determinación de esforzarse en pos de la más elevada y rica experiencia de tomar conciencia de Dios. (Discurso Divino, 28 de febrero de 1964)

 

If you go on a pilgrimage like a picnic, without the mental preparation necessary to receive God’s Grace, your travel is only for sight-seeing, not to strengthen your spiritual inclinations! Your journey is like that of a postal article, collecting impressions on the outer wrapper, not on the core of your inner being. A visually impaired person does not worry about day and night. So too, you cannot differentiate one place from another, if you do not allow the holiness to act on your mind. As a result of pilgrimages, your habits must change for the better; your outlook must widen; your inward look must become deeper and steadier. You must realise the omnipresence of God and the oneness of humanity. You must learn tolerance and patience, charity and service. After your pilgrimage, in your homes, ruminate over all the splendid experiences and be determined to strive for the higher and richer experience of God-realisation. (Divine Discourse, Feb 28,

La finalización de un «Saptah» (discurso largo de siete días) es llamada «Samapti», pero este término tiene un profundo significado también. Quiere decir el logro («Aapti») de «Samam» (Brahman o la Divinidad). Ese es el fruto final de escuchar, recapitular y absorber («Sravana, Manana y Nididhyasana») las lecciones espirituales y los discursos. En un sentido mundano, significa la conclusión de una serie de sesiones. En el sentido espiritual, significa trascender el tiempo. ¿Cuál es la suma y sustancia de todo esfuerzo espiritual ? Es el logro de abandonar la persecución de objetos sensoriales en tu búsqueda de paz y alegría duraderas. La riqueza material trae consigo no sólo alegría sino también pesar. La acumulación de riquezas y la multiplicación de deseos conducen solamente a una alternancia entre alegría y pesar. El apego es la
raíz de estos dos, y el desapego es el salvador.

The conclusion of a Saptah (seven days long discourse) is called Samapti. But the term Samapti has a profound meaning for it too. It means, the attainment (Aapti) of Samam (Brahman or Divinity). That is the final fruit of listening, recapitulation and absorption (sravana, manana and nididhyasana) of spiritual lessons and discourses. In the worldly sense, it means the conclusion of a series of sessions; in the spiritual sense, it means transcending time. What is the sum and substance of all spiritual endeavour? It is that you must give up your pursuit of sensory objects in your seeking for lasting peace and joy. Material wealth brings along with it not only joy but grief as well. Accumulation of riches and multiplication of wants lead only to alternation between joy and grief. Attachment is the root of both joy and grief; detachment is the Saviour. «Dhana» (Dinero) es la moneda del mundo, y «Sadhana» (práctica espiritual) es la moneda del espíritu. Cuando ciertos supuestos devotos se te acerquen con sus cuadernos y listados solicitando donaciones, no les des ningún dinero. ¿Por qué necesitar un salón para meditar o repetir el Nombre del Señor («Dhyana» o «Namasmarana») ? La presencia de otros con intenciones disímiles será más a menudo un obstáculo que una ayuda. En lugar de eso, convierte tu hogar en un templo y medita en tu propia sala-altar. Canta bhajans con amor en tu propia casa, y por sobre todo, sé un ejemplo para otros a través de tu conducta. Practica hablar en un tono suave, amoroso y con verdades . Sé humilde y demuestra reverencia a los ancianos. Vive con fe, de manera continua y verdadera. De esa forma atraerás más gente a la adoración a Dios que si establecieras
sociedades, recolectaras donaciones y dirigieras templos. Recuerda: el Señor realmente valora la sinceridad, simpleza y persistente alegría en la contemplación de Su Nombre y Forma…¡nada más !

Dhana (Money) is the currency of the world; Sadhana (spiritual practices) is the currency of the spirit. When self-styled devotees come to you with their lists and books seeking donations, do not offer them any money. Why do you need a hall to meditate or repeat the Lord’s Name (dhyana or namasmarana)? The presence of others with unlike intentions will more often be a hindrance rather than help; instead make your home a temple, meditate in your own shrine room. Sing bhajans lovingly in your own home. Above all, be an example to others through your conduct – practice soft loving and truthful speech. Be humble, and show reverence to elders. Live with faith, steadfastness and truthfulness. That way you will bring more people into the fold of theism than by establishing societies, collecting donations and running temples. Remember, the Lord really cares for sincerity, simplicity and steady joy in the contemplation of His name and form;
