Un pasajero sediento preguntó al aguatero en una estación de ferrocarril del interior del país si su bolsa de cuero estaba limpia. La respuesta que obtuvo fue: «en cuanto a la limpieza, todo lo que puedo decir es que la bolsa que vierte está más limpia que la bolsa que recoge (el cuerpo del hombre sediento)». Deben preocuparse más por la limpieza de su propia mente e intelecto. En lugar de criticar a otros y encontrar fallas en las acciones de otros, sométanse a un vigilante escrutinio, compréndanse bien y corrijan sus propios defectos; no sean como la bailarina que culpó al baterista por sus malos pasos. Este mundo objetivo es tan intemporal como Dios; no podemos determinar cuándo surgió, pero podemos determinar cuándo terminará, al menos para cada uno de nosotros. Cuando miran al pozo, su reflejo siempre está allí; en lo que a ustedes respecta,
su reflejo puede ser quitado del pozo en el momento en que decidan que no buscarán más el pozo, ni le prestarán atención. (Discurso Divino, 19 de agosto de 1964)

 

A thirsty passenger asked the water-carrier at an up-country railway station whether his leather bag was clean. The reply he got was, «As regards cleanliness, all I can say is that the bag which pours is cleaner than the bag which takes in (the body of the thirsty man).» You must care more for the cleanliness of your own mind and intellect. Instead of criticising others and finding faults with the actions of others, subject yourself to vigilant scrutiny, understand yourself well, and correct your own faults; do not be like the dancer who blamed the drummer for her wrong steps. This objective world is as ageless as God; we cannot determine when it came into being but we can determine when it will end, at least for each of us. When you look into the well, your reflection is always there; so far as you are concerned, your reflection can be removed from the well the moment you decide you will no more seek the well, or pay attention to it. Las Gopis conocían el secreto de la entrega espiritual. Su adoración no estaba contaminada con un espíritu de regateo. Para aquellos que negocian y ansían el lucro, la reverencia es proporcional al reembolso; venden su homenaje a tanto por unidad de respuesta satisfactoria. Son como sirvientes contratados, regateando salarios, horas extra, premios, etc. Calculan cuánto pueden obtener por el servicio prestado. Ustedes sean, en cambio, como miembros de la familia, parientes o amigos. Sientan que le pertenecen al Señor. Entonces el trabajo no los cansará, se efectuará mucho mejor, y de hecho dará más satisfacción. ¿Y el salario? El maestro los mantendrá en bienaventuranza. ¿Qué más pueden pretender? Déjenle el resto a Él. Él sabe; Él lo es todo. La alegría de tenerlo es suficiente recompensa. Vivan sus vidas
siguiendo estos lineamientos, y nunca sufrirán pena. «Na me bhaktah pranashyati»: Mis devotos nunca sufren, dice Krishna. (Discurso Divino, 19 de agosto de 1965)

 

The Gopis knew the secret of spiritual surrender. Their worship was not tainted by any bargaining spirit. For those who bargain and crave for profit, reverence is equated with the returns; they sell homage at so much per unit of satisfactory response. They are like paid servants, bargaining salary, overtime, bonus, etc. They calculate how much they are able to extract for the service rendered. On the other hand, be like a member of the family, a kinsman, a friend. Feel that you are Lord’s very own. Then work will not tire you, it will be done much better, and in fact will yield more satisfaction. And what about the wages? The master will maintain you in bliss. What more can you aspire for? Leave the rest to Him. He knows best; He is all. The joy of having Him is enough reward. Live your lives on these lines and you will never suffer grief. “Na me bhaktah pranashyati – My devotees never suffer,” says Krishna. (Divine Discourse, Aug 19,

Hoy es Gokulashtami, el cumpleaños de Krishna. No es muy importante celebrarlo con comidas especiales. Más importante es la adherencia a las enseñanzas de Krishna. ¿Dónde nació el Señor Krishna? ¡En una cárcel! ¿Cuáles eran sus posesiones? ¡Ninguna! Nacido en prisión, fue llevado a casa de Nanda, y después a Mathura. No poseía nada. Pero llegó a ser el líder más importante del mundo. ¿Qué demuestra esto? Las posesiones mundanas no son el secreto para lograr la grandeza. La grandeza de Krishna residía en su permanente estado de bienaventuranza (Ananda). El Señor Krishna dio al mundo un mensaje perenne: no buscó ni conservó nada para sí; por el contrario, lo dio todo. Mató a su tío materno, Kamsa, pero no codiciaba el reino; instaló en el trono a Ugrasena, el
padre de Kamsa. Ayudó a los Pandavas a derrotar a los Kauravas, y coronó a Dharmaja como emperador. Fue el rey de reyes, que gobierna los corazones de millones de personas. (Discurso Divino, 4 de septiembre de 1996)

 

Today is Gokulashtami, Krishna’s birthday. Celebrating it with special dishes is not that important. More important is adherence to Krishna’s teachings. Where was Lord Krishna born? In a prison! What were his possessions? Nothing! Born in a prison, He was taken to the house of Nanda and then to Mathura. He owned nothing. But He became the greatest leader in the world. What does this show? Worldly possessions are not the secret of achieving greatness. Krishna’s greatness was in his permanent state of bliss (Ananda). Lord Krishna gave a perennial message to the world – He sought and kept nothing for Himself, but gave away everything. He slayed his maternal uncle, Kamsa, but did not covet the kingdom; he installed on the throne Kamsa’s father Ugrasena. He helped the Pandavas defeat Kauravas and crowned Dharmaja as the emperor. He was the king of kings who rules the hearts of millions! (Divine Discourse, Sep 4, 1996)

Desde los tiempos más remotos, los Bharatiyas (indios) consideraron la Verdad como Dios, la amaron, la fomentaron, la protegieron, y así lograron la divinidad. Estaban dedicados a la Verdad, casados con el Dharma (la Rectitud) y consideraban la moralidad en la sociedad como su principal deber. Hoy, por haber olvidado la Verdad y la Rectitud, la gente es incapaz de resolver los problemas nacionales o acabar con las diferencias comunales. Tenemos la Bahía de Bengala en el este y el Mar Arábigo al oeste, y ambos se funden en el Océano Índico. De la misma manera, Bharat ejemplifica la combinación de prosperidad mundana y progreso espiritual. Bharat es el país en que fue establecida la unidad del Jiva (espíritu individual) con el Brahman (Espíritu Cósmico). Recuerden: el término Bharat no está relacionado con ningún individuo o país en particular; los
verdaderos bharatiyas son aquellos que se deleitan en el conocimiento de sí mismos. Por lo tanto, todo aquel que brille con el poder de su propia luminosidad es un Bharatiya. (Discurso Divino, 23 de noviembre de 1990)

 

From the most ancient times Bharatiyas (Indians) considered Truth as God, loved it, fostered it, protected it and thereby achieved Divinity. They were devoted to Truth, wedded to Dharma (Righteousness) and regarded morality in society as their foremost duty. Today because people have forgotten Truth and Righteousness they are unable to solve national problems or end communal differences. We have the Bay of Bengal in the east and the Arabian Sea in the west and both merge in the Indian Ocean. Likewise, Bharat exemplifies the combination of worldly prosperity and spiritual progress. Bharat is the country, where the unity of the Jiva (the individual Spirit) and the Brahman (the Cosmic Spirit) was established. Remember, the term Bharat does not relate to any particular individual or country. True Bharatiyas are those who take delight in Self-knowledge. Hence anyone who shines by their own self-luminous power is a Bharatiya. (Divine Discourse, Nov 23,1990)
