«Dhana» (Dinero) es la moneda del mundo, y «Sadhana» (práctica espiritual) es la moneda del espíritu. Cuando ciertos supuestos devotos se te acerquen con sus cuadernos y listados solicitando donaciones, no les des ningún dinero. ¿Por qué necesitar un salón para meditar o repetir el Nombre del Señor («Dhyana» o «Namasmarana») ? La presencia de otros con intenciones disímiles será más a menudo un obstáculo que una ayuda. En lugar de eso, convierte tu hogar en un templo y medita en tu propia sala-altar. Canta bhajans con amor en tu propia casa, y por sobre todo, sé un ejemplo para otros a través de tu conducta. Practica hablar en un tono suave, amoroso y con verdades . Sé humilde y demuestra reverencia a los ancianos. Vive con fe, de manera continua y verdadera. De esa forma atraerás más gente a la adoración a Dios que si establecieras
sociedades, recolectaras donaciones y dirigieras templos. Recuerda: el Señor realmente valora la sinceridad, simpleza y persistente alegría en la contemplación de Su Nombre y Forma…¡nada más !

Dhana (Money) is the currency of the world; Sadhana (spiritual practices) is the currency of the spirit. When self-styled devotees come to you with their lists and books seeking donations, do not offer them any money. Why do you need a hall to meditate or repeat the Lord’s Name (dhyana or namasmarana)? The presence of others with unlike intentions will more often be a hindrance rather than help; instead make your home a temple, meditate in your own shrine room. Sing bhajans lovingly in your own home. Above all, be an example to others through your conduct – practice soft loving and truthful speech. Be humble, and show reverence to elders. Live with faith, steadfastness and truthfulness. That way you will bring more people into the fold of theism than by establishing societies, collecting donations and running temples. Remember, the Lord really cares for sincerity, simplicity and steady joy in the contemplation of His name and form;

Un millonario paga Impuesto a las Ganancias con lágrimas en sus ojos…Un Director de Escuela deja alegremente el mobiliario y los elementos de laboratorio de su escuela cuando es transferido a otro sitio. ¿Por qué ? Porque el Director de Escuela sabe que él sólo es el encargado, no el dueño. No está apegado a estos objetos, y sabe que pertenecen al Gobierno. De manera que tú también debes sentir que tu familia, casa, propiedades, auto, etc., son todas pertenecientes al Señor y que tú eres solamente el depositario de ellas. Debes estar listo para abandonarlas sin un murmullo en un instante. Las Sagradas Escrituras contienen las drogas que curan el apego y te dotan con la fortaleza del desapego. Sacrificio («Tyaga») no significa no darles valor a las cosas. Puedes incluso preocuparte por ellas, pero recuerda siempre que son transitorias, y que la alegría que proveen es
trivial y temporaria. Debes conocer su valor real y no sobreestimarlas. No desarrolles apego («Moha») por ellas.

A millionaire pays income-tax with tears in his eyes; a headmaster joyfully gives up the furniture and laboratory appliances of his school when he is transferred to some other place. Why? Because the headmaster knows that he is only the caretaker, not the owner. He is not attached to these articles; he knows that they belong to the government. So too, feel that your family, house, property, car, etc. are all the Lord’s property and that you are only the trustee; be ready to give them up without a murmur at a moment’s notice. Sacred scriptures contain the drugs to cure attachment and endow you with the strength of detachment. Sacrifice (Tyaga) does not mean that you should not value things; you may even care for them. But always remember that they are transient, that the joy they give is trivial and temporary. Know their real worth; do not over-estimate them. Do not develop attachment (moha) towards them. El evitar todo contacto con otros y transitar un sendero solitario es un signo de debilidad, de temor y no de coraje. Sólo la asociación interactiva produce moralidad, justicia, compasión, simpatía, amor, tolerancia, ecuanimidad, y muchas otras cualidades que curten y disciplinan el carácter, moldeando la personalidad de un individuo. La cultura es la consecuencia de una mixtura de corazones y cabezas. Los sujetos de un grupo que están llenos de odio o desprecio recíproco, no pueden producir ningún efecto benéfico sobre nadie del grupo. El factor esencial es «Sama-chintha», es decir, una perspectiva compartida, o más bien una visión interior en común. Es clave tener un sistema compartido de creencias, opiniones y actitudes. Este «Sama-chintha» debe dar como resultado un flujo de bienaventuranza divina que abarque e ilumine a la comunidad entera. La toma de conciencia
de que uno es Divino y de que todos los demás también lo son igualmente, es el mejor nexo de unión para una comunidad. Esa bienaventuranza es la mejor atmósfera para poder nutrir y sostener comunidades.

To divest oneself of all contacts with others, and tread a lonely path is a sign of weakness, of fear and not of courage. Lively association alone produces morality, justice, compassion, sympathy, love, tolerance, equanimity and many other qualities that toughen and train the character, and mould the personality of an individual. Culture is the consequence of the co-mingling of hearts and heads. A group of individuals, who are charged with hatred or contempt towards each other, cannot produce any beneficial effect on any in the group; Sama-chintha, that is, a common outlook or rather a common inward-vision is the essential factor. Common belief systems, opinions and attitudes is key. This Sama-chintha must result in a flood of divine bliss that envelops and brightens an entire community. The consciousness that one is Divine and that everyone else is equally so, is the best bond for a community. That bliss is the best atmosphere to nurture

Ravana tenía un vasto conocimiento de los textos espirituales. Sus diez cabezas representan la sabiduría que había logrado de los seis Shastras (Escrituras) y de los cuatro Vedas, pero nunca utilizó ese conocimiento para nada. Él sólo anhelaba unicamente poseer Prakriti (objetos materiales), dominar el mundo de la materia, el mundo objetivo. Lo espiritual no logró moderarlo, y Ravana dejó de lado al Purusha, el Señor. Estaba contento con la posesión de Prakriti (materia) en Lanka, representada por la Madre Sita. Por esa razón cayó Ravana. Como el mono que introdujo su mano dentro de un pote de cuello angosto y se apoderó de las nueces que alcanzó, pero que luego le impidieron volver a retirar la mano con su contenido de nueces, así también las personas están sufriendo hoy, porque son reacias a soltar el puñado de cosas mundanas
que les producen placer y a las cuales se aferran. La gente es llevada a la errónea creencia de que la acumulación de posesiones materiales les dará alegría y calma, pero sólo el Amor Divino puede proporcionar una sempiterna alegría.

Ravana had vast knowledge of spiritual texts. His ten heads represent the learning he had earned from the six Shastras (scriptures) and the four Vedas. But he never put that knowledge to any use. He craved for the possession of Prakriti (material objects) alone; he wanted to master the world of matter, the objective world. But he was not tamed by the spirit. He discarded the Purusha, the Lord; he was content with the possession at Lanka, of Prakriti (Matter), represented by Mother Sita. That was why he fell. Like the monkey which could not pull its hand from out of the narrow-necked pot, because it first held in its grasp a handful of groundnuts which the pot contained, people too are suffering today, as they are unwilling to release their hold on the handful of pleasurable things they have grasped from the world. One is led into the wrong belief that the accumulation of material possessions will endow them with joy and calm. But Divine
Love alone can give that everlasting joy. [Divine Discourse, Feb 28, 1964]
