Tres cualidades distinguen al hombre de otros animales. Ellas son: solidaridad, compasión y renunciación. Hoy una hambruna ha secado estos sentimientos del corazón humano. Esta condición trágica está generando agitación y disturbios entre ambos: estudiantes y docentes. La convicción de que el dinero puede conseguir cualquier cosa ha crecido en la mente de las personas, sin embargo es imposible promover la paz y seguridad por medio de la acumulación de dinero. El dinero puede comprar mucho alimento; no puede comprar el apetito o el hambre. El dinero puede comprar el cuidado médico y medicinas; pero no puede comprar salud ni inmunidad. El dinero puede comprar sirvientes; mas no puede comprar la buena voluntad. Puede comprar confort, pero no felicidad. No puede promover el carácter o la moralidad. Esta verdad debe ser comprendida por ambos, estudiantes y docentes. Ya que, los

Three qualities distinguish man from other animals. They are sympathy, compassion and renunciation. Today a famine has dried up these feelings in the human heart. This tragic condition is generating agitation and disturbance among both students and teachers. The conviction that money can achieve anything has grown in people’s mind, though it is impossible to promote peace and security through the accumulation of money. Money can buy plenty of food; it cannot buy appetite or hunger. Money can buy medical care and medicines; but it cannot buy health and immunity. Money can buy servants; it cannot buy goodwill. It can buy comfort, but not happiness. It cannot help to promote character or morality. This truth must be understood by both students and teachers. La gente en Kerala celebra el festival de Onam, tomando un baño de aceite, usando ropas nuevas, adorando a Krishna y visitando templos. El día de Onam, cocinan muchos platos especiales y todos los miembros de la familia celebran juntos y dan la bienvenida al Emperador Bali para que los bendiga. El Emperador Bali era un rey muy noble, un gran y humilde devoto. Pero había un elemento de ego en él. El significado interno del Señor Vamana empujando al Emperador Bali al inframundo muestra al Señor Vamana aplastando del ego de Bali. Comprendan que Dios nunca tolerará la ira y el ego. ¿Por qué somos egoístas? ¿Es por la belleza física o la fuerza de los sentidos, o por agudeza mental o riqueza? Ninguno de estos es permanente. Dios ha dotado a cada ser humano con Verdad, Rectitud, Paz, Amor y No Violencia. Desarrollen estas cualidades. En este día especial, los

People in Kerala celebrate the Onam festival by taking an oil bath, wearing new clothes, worshiping Krishna and visiting temples. On Onam day, they cook many special dishes and all members of the family feast together and welcome Emperor Bali to bless them. Emperor Bali was a very noble king, a great and humble devotee. But there was an element of ego in him. The inner significance of Lord Vamana pushing Emperor Bali to the netherworld reveals Lord Vamana crushing Bali’s ego. Understand that God will never tolerate anger and ego. Why are we egoistic? Is it for physical beauty or strength of the senses or intellectual acumen or wealth? None of these is permanent. God has gifted every human being with Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Non-violence. Develop these qualities. La historia de Krishna y las gopis (niñas-vaqueras) tiene un profundo significado interno. Brindavan no es un lugar específico del mapa; es el Universo mismo. Cada corazón está lleno de añoranza por el Señor, y la flauta es el llamado del Señor. En el deporte denominado Rasakrid en el que el Señor Krishna es descripto como bailando con las gopis a la luz de la luna, cada doncella tenía un Krishna que sostenía su mano en la danza. Este es el símbolo del anhelo y esfuerzo soportado por aquellos que aspiran a alcanzar Su presencia. El Señor manifiesta tal Gracia que cada uno de ustedes tiene al Señor todo para sí; no necesitan estar tristes porque Él no esté, cuando otros Lo tengan; ¡no habrá necesidad de enorgullecerse de que Lo tienen y nadie más lo puede hacer en el mismo instante! The story of Krishna and the gopis (cowherd-girls) has a deep inner meaning. Brindavan is not a specific place on the map; it is the Universe Itself. Every heart is filled with the longing for the Lord, and the flute is the call of the Lord. In the sport called Rasakrida where Lord Krishna is described as dancing with the gopis in the moonlight, every maid had a Krishna holding her hand in the dance. This is the symbol of the yearning and the travail borne by those who aim at reaching His presence. The Lord manifests such Grace that each one of you has the Lord all for yourself; you need not be sad that you won’t have Him, when others get Him; nor need you be proud that you have Him and no one else can have Him at the same time! Ninguna pareja de individuos puede acordar sobre algún tema, sean hermanos, compañeros de vida, o padre e hijo. Es solo como peregrinos bajo la protección de Dios que ellos pueden estar de acuerdo con entusiasmo y cooperar amorosamente. Puedes ser un peregrino incluso mientras realizas tus deberes cotidianos. Solamente, debes sentir que cada momento es un paso hacia Él. Practica cada cosa como dedicada a Él, como dirigida por Él, como trabajo para Su adoración o para servir a Sus hijos. Pon todas tus acciones, palabras y pensamientos bajo esta regla: «¿Dios aprobará esto? ¿Reflejará esto Su gloria?» Cuando se dediquen ustedes mismos a la glorificación del Señor, reverencien el cuerpo, los sentidos, la inteligencia, la Voluntad y todos los instrumentos del conocimiento, acción y sentimiento como esenciales para Su trabajo. Mientras otros se intoxican con

No two individuals can agree on any matter, be they brothers or sisters, lifemates or father and son. It is only as pilgrims on the Godward path that two can heartily agree and lovingly co-operate. You can be a pilgrim even while attending to your daily duties. Only, you have to feel that each moment is a step towards Him. Do everything as dedicated to Him, as directed by Him, as work for His adoration or for serving His children. Test all your actions, words, thoughts on this touchstone: «Will this be approved by God? Will this rebound to His renown?» When you dedicate yourselves to the glorification of the Lord, you will revere the body, the senses, the intelligence, the Will and all the instruments of knowledge, action and feeling as essential for His work. While others will get intoxicated with pride, the devotee will be suffused with prema (selfless love). (Divine Discourse, Nov 23, 1968)
