El vapor de agua producido por el sol se transforma en una nube y esconde al sol mismo. De manera similar, los pensamientos que surgen en la mente ocultan el Yo (Atma). Cuando se elimina la mente, queda el alma sola. Para eliminar la mente y remover las fantasías de ella, se deben controlar los deseos. Los aspirantes de hoy no están reduciendo sus deseos. Debes darte cuenta que es preciso desembarazarte del egoísmo y del estar centrado en ti mismo. El egoísmo es la causa raíz de todas las aflicciones que abruman a las personas. Si el mundo ha de ser transformado, el mejor comienzo es reformarse uno mismo. Tus rasgos malignos deben ser removidos, llenándote de pensamientos sagrados. Si no tomas conciencia de tu verdadera naturaleza, ¡todos los demás logros no sirven de nada ! Debes volver tu mente hacia adentro. Volverla hacia el mundo exterior sólo puede generar pesares. La bienaventuranza
duradera sólo puede ser obtenida dirigiendo la mente hacia Dios. Ese es el «sadhana»(práctica espiritual) real y verdadero.

The water vapour produced by the Sun becomes a cloud and hides the Sun itself. Likewise thoughts arising in the mind conceal the Self (Atma). When the mind is eliminated the Atma alone remains. For eliminating the mind and removing the delusions from it, desires must be controlled. Aspirants of today are not reducing their desires. You must realise that selfishness and self-centeredness must be got rid of. Selfishness is the root cause of all the afflictions plaguing people. If the world is to be transformed, the best start is to reform yourself. Your evil traits must be removed. You must fill yourself with sacred thoughts. Without you realizing your true nature, all other accomplishments are of no avail! You must turn the mind inwards. Turning the mind towards the external world can only breed sorrow. Enduring bliss can be got only by directing the mind towards God. That is real and true sadhana (spiritual practice). (Divine Discourse,

El sabio Narada, quien había logrado la maestría en muchas ciencias y artes, no pudo asegurarse la suprema bienaventuranza que resulta de la paz mental. Preocupado por esta falta de paz, abordó al sabio Sanatkumara y le preguntó cuál era la causa de su problema. El sabio le inquirió sobre sus logros, a lo cual Narada respondió que él era experto en todos los Vedas y Vedantas, y que dominaba las 64 diferentes ciencias, incluyendo el entrenamiento de elefantes y la cría de vacas. Riendo por dentro, el sabio Sanatkumara le preguntó: «¿ Esos son tus únicos logros ? Oh, Narada, si no sabes quién eres, de qué sirve conocer todas las demás cosas ?» La gente hace distintos intentos por comprender todo lo mundano, pero nadie realiza ningún esfuerzo por comprenderse a sí mismo. Se dedica una enorme cantidad de tiempo a comprender otras cosas,
pero el hombre no puede encontrar tiempo para conocerse a sí mismo. Sin importar la erudición que uno tenga, su inteligencia o posición, no se lograrán la paz mental y la felicidad si no se llega a conocer a su verdadero Yo.

Sage Narada, who had mastered the many sciences and arts, could not secure the supreme bliss that comes from peace of mind. Troubled by this lack of peace he approached the sage Sanatkumara and asked him what was the cause of his condition. The sage asked Narada what were his accomplishments. Narada told the sage that he was proficient in all the Vedas and Vedantas and had mastered the sixty-four different sciences including the training of elephants and the rearing of cows. Laughing within himself, sage Sanatkumara asked: “Are these your only accomplishments? Oh Narada, without knowing who you are, what is the use of knowing all other things?» People make various attempts to understand everything in the world. But no one makes any effort to understand oneself. An enormous amount of time is spent on understanding other things, but man cannot find the time to know himself. Whatever one’s scholarship, intelligence or position, one
cannot have peace of mind and happiness if one does not know the real Self. (Divine Discourse, Sep 3, 1990)

Las personas cometen muchas ofensas, sabiéndolo o no, no sólo en esta vida sino también en vidas previas. La impronta de estas acciones es llevada por la memoria subconsciente («Chitta») a lo largo de muchas vidas. Cuando el espejo de la mente es ensuciado con estas reliquias, la mente no es capaz de percibir nada en su verdadero estado. Esta es la razón por la cual la gente no puede reconocer su propia verdadera naturaleza, y se hace necesario limpiar las impurezas del espejo. Esto se logra controlando tus comidas y tus hábitos recreacionales. Debes asegurarte de que el alimento que ingieras haya sido obtenido a través de medios correctos. Muchas dolencias hoy se originan porque la gente consume comidas obtenidas por medios ilícitos. No siempre es posible asegurarse de la más alta pureza de los alimentos en todo momento, y para superar esta dificultad hay una solución sencilla y efectiva
: ¡antes de comer, ofrece tu alimento a Dios ! de esta forma se convierte en un don de Dios («Prasadam») y todas las impurezas que contenía esa comida son removidas. Esto ayuda a limpiar la mente. ¡Continúa siempre esta práctica !

People commit many offences, knowingly or unknowingly, not only in this life, but also in previous lives. The imprint of these actions is carried by the subconscious memory (Chitta) over many lives. When the mirror of the mind is soiled by these relics, the mind cannot perceive anything in its true state. This is the reason why people are unable to recognise their own true nature. Hence it is necessary to cleanse the mirror of impurities on it. This is done by regulating your food and recreational habits! You must ensure that the food you eat is obtained through righteous means. Many sufferings today are only because people consume food obtained by unrighteous means. It may not always be possible to ensure highest purity at all times. To get over this difficulty, there is an easy and effective solution! Before eating, offer the food to God! Then it becomes a gift from God (prasadam) and all impurities in the food are removed. This helps in
cleansing the mind. Continue this practice always! (Divine Discourse, May 25, 1990)

En una ocasión, cuando pregunté a un grupo de personas sobre qué cosa les gustaría ser en las manos de Dios, recibí variadas respuestas. Algunos dijeron el loto, otros el caracol marino, y así por el estilo, ¡pero nadie mencionó a la flauta ! Les aconsejo que se imaginen como una flauta, porque de esa forma el Señor vendrá a ustedes, los tomará y pondrá entre Sus labios, y soplará a través de ustedes. En la hoquedad de vuestros corazones – y debido a la total ausencia de egoísmo – Él creará una cautivante música para que la disfrute toda la Creación. Sean rectos, sin ninguna voluntad propia.
La vida que lleven de ahora en adelante deberá estar empapada de Bienaventuranza Divina. Fusionen su propia voluntad con la Voluntad de Dios. Inhalen solamente el aliento de Dios. Esa es la vida divina a la que deben
aspirar, y también es, ciertamente, la misión para la cual nace cada individuo : fusionar lo individual con lo Universal.

Once when I asked a number of people as to what they would like to be in the hands of God, I got various answers. Some said the lotus, others the conch, the discus and so on, but no one mentioned the flute! I advise you to become the flute, for then the Lord will come to you, pick you up, put you on to His lips, and breathe through you. Out of the hollowness of your heart due to the utter absence of egoism, He will create captivating music for all creation to enjoy. Be straight, without any will of your own. The life that you lead from now on must be soaked with Divine Bliss. Merge your will in the will of God. Inhale only the breath of God. That is the divine life that you must achieve. Such divine life is indeed the mission for which every individual is born – to merge the individual in the Universal. (Divine Discourse, Venkatagiri, Apr 1957)
