Mensaje de la Pizarra de Prashanti Nilayam

OM SRI SAI RAM

Mientras ustedes están en este mundo transitorio, tienen la acuciante necesidad de alguien de su misma clase, a quien puedan comunicar sus sentimientos, con quien puedan compartir sus descubrimientos, depresiones, momentos de dicha y de pena. Alguien que pueda estar a su lado mientras caminan por el duro camino hacia la verdad y la paz, animándolos y entusiasmándolos hacia la meta. Amigos que puedan dar buen consejo, sostén y consuelo son obsequios preciosos, que hoy en día se hallan raramente. La amistad debe unir dos corazones y afectar beneficiosamente a ambos, pase lo que pase a cualquiera de los dos: pérdida o ganancia, dolor o placer. Cada uno debe corregir al otro, porque cada cual sabe que la corrección se debe a la simpatía y al amor. Cada uno debe vigilar que el otro no resbale del ideal, no cultive hábitos deletéreos ni oculte pensamientos o planes que sean malvados. El
honor de cada uno está bajo la custodia del otro. Cada uno confía en el otro y depende del vigilante amor del otro. Sólo merecen llamarse «amigos» quienes ayudan a elevar la vida, limpiar los ideales, elevar las emociones y reforzar las resoluciones. (Discurso Divino, 24 de mayo de 1973)

 

While in this transient world you have a sore need of someone of your kind to whom you can communicate your feelings, share your discoveries, depressions, moments of bliss and sorrow. Someone who can be by your side while trekking the hard road to truth and peace, encouraging and enthusing you towards the goal. Friends who can confer real counsel, comfort and consolation are precious gifts, rarely found today. Friendship must bind two hearts and affect both beneficially, whatever may happen to either – loss or gain, pain or pleasure. Each must correct the other, for each knows that they come from sympathy and love. Each must be vigilant that the other does not slide from the ideal, cultivate habits that are deleterious, or hide thoughts and plans that are evil. The honour of each is in the safekeeping of the other. Each trusts the other and places reliance on the other’s watchful love. Only those deserve the name ‘friends’, who help in
uplifting life, cleansing ideals, elevating emotions and strengthening resolves. [Divine Discourse, May 24, 1973]

Mensaje de la Pizarra de Prashanti Nilayam

Cuando Adi Shankara vivía en Varanasi con sus alumnos, se cruzó con un erudito inmerso en complicadas reglas gramaticales. Cuando le preguntó por qué había emprendido ese intenso estudio, el erudito respondió que podría fácilmente obtener algunas monedas de plata, diciendo así: «Si me designan pandit, podré ir a casa de algunos grandes zamindars (terratenientes), con la esperanza de recibir de ellos dádivas y regalos, para el mantenimiento de mi numerosa familia». Entonces, Shankara lo aconsejó adecuadamente, llenándolo de valor y confianza en sí mismo. Al regresar a su ermita, Shankara escribió un poema que resumía así el consejo brindado al pobre erudito: «Bhaja Govindam, bhaja Govindam, bhaja Govindam, bhaja Govindam, moodha mate. Samprapte Sannihite kale, nahi nahi rakshati dukrun karane». (¡Alaba a Dios, alaba a Dios, alaba
a Dios, alaba a Dios, mente ingenua! Cuando la muerte se aproxime, no te salvarán las reglas gramaticales). El estudio de estos versos, y la inspiración que se deriva de ellos, promoverán el discernimiento y el desapego, preparando de ese modo la mente para la visión de Lo Supremo. When Adi Shankara was residing at Varanasi with his pupils, he came across a scholar, who was immersed in complicated rules of grammar. When asked why he had taken up this intensive study, he replied that it would easily fetch him a few pieces of silver. «If I am designed a pandit, I can go to the home of some big zamindars (landlords), and hope to receive alms and offerings from them for the upkeep of my large family,» he said. Shankara then advised him appropriately and charged him with self-confidence and courage. Returning to his hermitage, Shankara wrote a verse summarising the advice he gave the poor scholar thus: Bhaja Govindam, bhaja Govindam, bhaja Govindam, moodha mate. Samprapte sannihithe kale, nahi nahi rakshati dukrun karane (Praise God, Praise God, Praise God, you foolish mind! When death approaches, rules of grammar cannot save you). The study of these verses and the inspiration derived from them will promote discrimination and
detachment, and thus, prepare the mind for the vision of the Supreme. [Divine Discourse, May 21, 1973]

Hace mucho tiempo, había una persona que tenía tres amigos. Accidentalmente, fue acusada de un crimen, y la corte ordenó su arresto. Él acudió a un amigo y le pidió que atestiguara su inocencia. El amigo dijo: «No me moveré de esta casa, sólo te puedo ayudar desde aquí dentro». El segundo amigo dijo: «Sólo puedo ir hasta el pórtico del tribunal. No me sentaré en el banquillo de los testigos». El tercer amigo dijo: «Vamos, hablaré en tu favor dondequiera desees que lo haga». El primer amgo son «las propiedades y posesiones», que pueden atestiguar sólo desde el interior de la casa. El segundo son «los parientes», que llegan hasta el cementerio pero no acompañan a la persona hasta el lugar del juicio. El tercer amigo es el buen nombre ganado por nuestras virtudes y servicios. Estos persisten aún después de la muerte y el entierro; son
nuestros testigos durante eras, y anuncian la inocencia y grandeza del individuo. Ellos también deciden la naturaleza del siguiente nacimiento. (Discurso Divino, 24 de mayo de 1973)

 

Long ago, there was a person who had three friends. Quite by accident, he was charged for some crime and a warrant was issued against him by the court. He approached one friend and asked him to bear witness to his innocence. He said, «I will not move out of this house; I can help you only from within this.» The second friend said, «I can come only upto the porch of the court. I will not enter the witness box.» The third friend said, «Come, I shall speak for you wherever you want me to.» The first friend is the ‘property and possessions’ which can bear witness only from within the house. The second is ‘the kinsmen and the members of the family’, who come as far as the cemetery but would not accompany the person to the seat of judgement. The third friend is the fair name earned by one’s virtues and service. These persist even after death and burial; they stand witness for ages, and announce the innocence and greatness of the individual. They
decide the nature of the next birth too. [Divine Discourse, May 24, 1973]

El emperador de los Cholas procuró visitar el templo Gopuram de Srirangam, acerca del cual había oído hablar mucho. Hizo alistar su carruaje, y durante los siguientes seis meses trató varias veces de efectuar este viaje. Sin embargo, en cada ocasión, un asceta vistiendo túnica naranja, con un rosario colgado al cuello y un halo alrededor de la cabeza, interceptaba el vehículo. Cuando el emperador descendía para honrarlo, el asceta sostenía una conversación tan encantadora que el emperador olvidaba el viaje y su meta. Un día, cuando se lamentaba por no haber podido llenar sus ojos con la gloria del Srirangam, el Señor apareció ante él y dijo lo siguiente. «¿Por qué te lamentas? Yo soy el Maestro que acudió a ti tantas veces apenas partías hacia Srirangam. Reconóceme en todos; este es el auténtico peregrinaje a
Srirangam». Consideren a todos con quienes se encuentran, como al Señor de Srirangam, su Maestro. Demuestren un amor inmaculado hacia todos los que llegan a ustedes. (Discurso Divino, 14 de enero de 1967)

 

The emperor of the Cholas sought to visit the Srirangam Gopuram Temple, of which he had heard much. He got his chariot ready and in the next six months tried to make this journey many times. But on every occasion a recluse in ochre robes with a rosary around his neck and a halo around his head intercepted the vehicle. When the emperor alighted to honour him, he kept him engaged in conversation which was so enchanting that he forgot his journey and its goal. One day, when he lamented over his failure to fill his eyes with the glory of Srirangam, the Lord appeared before him and said, «Why do you lament? I am the Master who came to you so often as soon as you set out for Srirangam; recognise Me in all, that is the genuine pilgrimage to Srirangam.» Consider all whom you meet as the Lord of Srirangam, your Master. Show untarnished love towards all who come to you. [Divine Discourse, Jan 14, 1967]
