El silencio es el único idioma de los que han llegado a tomar conciencia de sí mismos. Practiquen la moderación en el habla. Esto los ayudará de muchas maneras. Desarrollará el amor incondicional (prema), ya que la mayoría de los malentendidos y disensiones surgen de palabras dichas al descuido. Cuando el pie resbala, la herida puede ser sanada, pero cuando la lengua comete un desliz, la herida causada en el corazón de otro seguirá enconada de por vida. La lengua es responsable de cuatro grandes errores: decir falsedades, escandalizar, buscar culpas en los demás y hablar en exceso. Estos tienen que ser evitados para que haya paz (shanti) para el individuo, así como para la sociedad. El vínculo de la hermandad universal será estrechado si la gente habla menos y habla con dulzura. Es por esto que el silencio fue prescripto en los textos espirituales como un voto para los
aspirantes espirituales. Todos ustedes son aspirantes espirituales en diversas etapas del camino; en consecuencia, esta disciplina es valiosa también para ustedes.

 

Silence is the only language of the realised. Practice moderation in speech. That will help you in many ways. It will develop unconditional love (prema), for most misunderstandings and factions arise out of carelessly spoken words. When the foot slips, the wound can be healed, but when the tongue slips, the wound it causes in the heart of another will fester for life. The tongue is liable to four big errors: uttering falsehood, scandalising, finding fault with others, and excessive articulation. These have to be avoided if there has to be peace (shanti) for the individual as well as for society. The bond of universal brotherhood will be tightened if people speak less and speak sweet. Hence, silence was prescribed as a vow for spiritual aspirants by the spiritual texts. You are all spiritual aspirants at various stages of the road, so this discipline is valuable for you also. Ravana tenía un vasto conocimiento de los textos espirituales. Sus diez cabezas representan el aprendizaje que había adquirido de los seis Shastras (Escrituras) y los cuatro Vedas. Pero nunca dio utilidad alguna a ese conocimiento. Él solo anhelaba la posesión de Prakriti (objetos materiales): quería dominar el mundo de la materia, el mundo objetivo. Pero no estaba moderado por el espíritu. Desechaba al Purusha, el Señor; se conformaba con la posesión, en Lanka, de Prakriti (la materia), representada por la Madre Sita. Es por esto que cayó. Como el mono que no puede retirar su mano de la vasija de cuello angosto, porque ha aferrado un puñado de los maníes contenidos en la vasija, así está sufriendo hoy la gente al no querer soltar el puñado de objetos placenteros que ha tomado del mundo. Se cae en la errónea creencia de que la acumulación de
posesiones materiales proporcionará alegría y calma. Sin embargo, solo el amor divino puede dar esa alegría permanente. (Divino Discurso, 16 de octubre de 1974)

 

Ravana had vast knowledge of spiritual texts. His ten heads represent the learning he had earned from the six Shastras (scriptures) and the four Vedas. But he never put that knowledge to any use. He craved for the possession of Prakriti (material objects) alone; he wanted to master the world of matter, the objective world. But he was not tamed by the spirit. He discarded the Purusha, the Lord; he was content with the possession at Lanka, of Prakriti (Matter), represented by Mother Sita. That was why he fell. Like the monkey which could not pull its hand from out of the narrow-necked pot, because it first held in its grasp a handful of groundnuts which the pot contained, people too are suffering today, as they are unwilling to release their hold on the handful of pleasurable things they have grasped from the world. One is led into the wrong belief that the accumulation of material possessions will endow them with joy and calm. But Divine Love alone can
give that everlasting joy. (Divine Discourse, Oct 16, 1974)

El ideal del servicio debe inspirar a aquellos que detentan autoridad, a aquellos que poseen riquezas y a aquellos dotados de habilidades, inteligencia, tiempo disponible y salud. Pongan fin a la pereza, entierren su clamoroso ego y entierren la codicia de poder y dinero; entonces llegarán a estar calificados para servir. Sean dignos de este obsequio, de la gracia de ser voluntarios (Sevadal); mantengan estos altos ideales. Esta oportunidad no es más que una gracia; no es consecuencia de ninguna solicitud. Ella no los ata; les otorga distinción y deber. Si la poseen, y teniéndola se abstienen del servicio o vacilan en prestarlo, van por mal camino. La gente acude a la Divinidad para librarse del pecado y acumular mérito espiritual; si ustedes deshonran la insignia, están reteniendo pecados, y tal vez acumulando muchos más. Recuerden: con cada acto de amor y servicio, ustedes se aproximan al
Señor; con cada acto de odio y codicia, se alejan cada vez más. (Divino Discurso, 16 de octubre de 1974)

 

The ideal of service must inspire those in authority, those who possess riches, those endowed with skills, intelligence, leisure and health. Put an end to laziness, bury your clamorous ego, and bury the greed for power and pelf, then you become qualified to serve! Be worthy of this gift of grace to be a volunteer (Sevadal); maintain its high ideals. This opportunity is sheer grace; it’s not a consequence of some claim. It does not bind you; it gives you distinction and duty! If you have it with you, and yet, you withdraw from service or hesitate to render it, you are on the wrong track. People come to the Divine to get rid of sin and accumulate spiritual merit; if you dishonour the badge, you are retaining sins and perhaps accumulating a lot more! Remember, with each act of love and service, you are nearing the Lord; with each act of hate and grab, you are moving farther away. – Divine Discourse, Oct 16, 1974
