La vida es una campaña contra enemigos; una batalla con obstáculos, tentaciones, dificultades y vacilaciones. Estos enemigos están dentro, por eso la batalla tiene que ser incesante y perpetua. Como los virus que prosperan en la corriente sanguínea, los vicios de la lujuria, la codicia, el odio, la maldad, el orgullo y la envidia drenan la energía y la fe de cada ser, y lo reducen a una prematura caída. Ustedes deben esforzarse por diagnosticar su propio carácter, y descubrir las fallas que lo infestan; no traten de analizar el carácter de los demás, tratando de hallar sus defectos. Ese examen de sí mismos es muy necesario para sacar a la luz los defectos que pueden estar socavando su carrera espiritual. La gente compra vestimenta de colores oscuros para que no se vean el polvo ni la suciedad; no prefieren la ropa blanca, porque ésta muestra abiertamente su condición
de sucia. No traten de ocultar sus manchas en lo oscuro; avergüéncense de las naturalezas sucias, y procuren limpiarlas rápido. (Discurso Divino, 16 de marzo de 1966)

 

Life is a campaign against foes; a battle with obstacles, temptations, hardships, and hesitations. These foes are within and so, the battle has to be incessant and perpetual. Like the virus that thrives in the bloodstream, the vices of lust, greed, hate, malice, pride and envy sap the energy and faith of every being and reduce them to untimely fall. You must strive to diagnose your own character and discover the faults that are infesting it; do not try to analyse the character of others and seek to spot their defects. This self-examination is very necessary to bring to light the defects that might undermine one’s spiritual career. People buy clothes with deep colour, so that they may not reveal dust or dirt; they do not prefer white clothes, for they show plainly their soiled condition. But, do not try to hide your dirt in darkness; be ashamed of soiled natures and endeavour to cleanse them fast. (Divine Discourse, Mar 16, 1966)

Hay dos cosas que atraen nuestra mente: hitha (lo beneficioso) y priya (lo placentero). Prefieran lo beneficioso a lo placentero, porque lo placentero los puede hacer caer por la resbaladiza senda del abismo sin fondo. Vibhishana decía hitha a Ravana, pero éste prestó oídos a lo que decían sus aduladores ministros. Así selló su destino, al optar por lo placentero en vez de lo beneficioso. El verdadero médico está interesado en curarlos de todas las enfermedades, y por eso aconseja hitha para que recobren la salud; el Gurú es un médico de este tipo. Obedézcanlo, incluso si su receta es desagradable, porque serán curados. La gente sufre de la fiebre de los sentidos, y prueba los falsos remedios de recreaciones, placeres, pícnics, banquetes, bailes, etc., sólo para hallar que la fiebre no cede. La fiebre sólo cederá cuando el virus
oculto sea desactivado. Ese virus sólo morirá cuando los rayos de jnana (la sabiduría) caigan sobre él. (Discurso Divino, 16 de marzo de 1966)

 

There are two things that draw one’s mind: hitha (the beneficial) and priya (the pleasant). Prefer the beneficial to the pleasant, for the pleasant might lead you down the sliding path into the bottomless pit. Vibhishana spoke hitha to Ravana, but he lent his ear to the priya that his sycophantic ministers spoke. He sealed his fate by this preference of pleasant over beneficial. The true doctor is interested in curing you of all illness and so, he advises hitha to restore your health; the Guru is such a doctor. Obey him even when his prescription is unpalatable, for, you will be cured! People suffer from the fever of the senses and they try the quack remedies of recreations, pleasures, picnics, banquets, dances, etc., only to find that the fever does not subside. The fever can subside only when the hidden virus is rendered ineffective. That virus will die only when the rays of jnana (wisdom) fall upon it. (Divine Discourse, Mar 16, 1966)<br

La mayor parte de las personas participan en el canto de bhajans, en puja y dhyana (adoración ritual y meditación), pero estos son simplemente ejercicios físicos. Pregúntense con sinceridad: ¿resulta elevada su mente como resultado de ellos? ¿Fluye libremente su corazón durante esa adoración? ¡No! Por lo tanto, ustedes siguen estando en el nivel humano, no se elevan a lo divino. «¿Puede un lago ser llenado cuando sólo cae una llovizna? ¿Puede saciarse la sed con unas pocas gotas de agua? ¿Puede llenarse el estómago con solo retener la respiración? ¿Pueden obtenerse brasas quemando hojas de hierba?» Esto pregunta un famoso poeta. Si se necesita carbón, hay que quemar troncos. Sólo una lluvia torrencial puede llenar un lago hasta los bordes. Un vaso de agua fresca, y ninguna otra cosa, es lo único que puede curar la sed de
una persona. El corazón tiene que ser ofrendado plenamente. La devoción tiene que llenar el corazón hasta rebosar, para que ustedes puedan elevarse a la Divinidad. (Discurso Divino, 8 de enero de 1983)

 

Most people engage in bhajan singing, puja and dhyana (ritualistic worship and meditation) but these are mere physical exercises! Ask yourself sincerely – is your mind elevated as a result of these? Does your heart pour through during your worship? No! Hence you continue to remain at the human level and do not rise to the Divine. “Can a lake be filled when there is only a sprinkle of rain? Can thirst be relieved, with a few drops of water? Can the belly be full, if breathing is held tight? Can live cinders be secured by the burning of blades of grass?» asks a famous poet. Logs have to be burned if charcoal is needed. Only sheets of rain can fill a lake to the brim. A glass of cold water alone can cure a person of thirst, nothing less. The heart has to be offered in full. Devotion has to fill and overflow the heart, for you to rise into Divinity!

Obsérvame; ¿qué beneficio puedo obtener de toda Mi actividad, yo, que asigno todos los beneficios a todas las actividades según lo que se merecen? Pero, sin embargo, Me encontrarás ocupado desde el amanecer hasta el anochecer, desde el anochecer hasta el amanecer. Termino Mi almuerzo o cena en minutos para poder enseñarte el valor del tiempo; cuido hasta el más mínimo detalle de todos los diversos trabajos, porque trato de darles un ejemplo, con una atención meticulosa y una cuidadosa anticipación de todas las contingencias. Sé que muchos de ustedes pasan horas inactivas, perdiendo horas preciosas en chismes ociosos, charlas y debates sin propósito. Cuando practiques la actitud de que Dios está en todas partes como testigo de cada acto tuyo, de que Dios está en cada ser que conoces y sirves, entonces, ciertamente serás recompensado con una
Visión del Señor. Cuando tengas esta brillante oportunidad, no la dejes pasar por ignorancia o negligencia. La mejor manera de ganar la Gracia es obedecer las instrucciones, seguir los consejos y someterse al control ejercido con mucho Amor. [Discurso Divino, 22 de noviembre de 1965].

 

Observe Me; what benefit can I derive from all My activity, I who assigns all benefits to all activities according to what they deserve? But yet, you will find Me busy from dawn to dusk, from dusk to dawn. I finish My lunch or dinner within minutes so that I can teach you the value of time; I attend to the smallest detail of all the various items of work, for I try to set an example for you, in meticulous attention to, and careful anticipation of, all contingencies. I know many of you idle away hours on end, wasting precious hours in idle gossip, purposeless talk and debate. When you practise the attitude that God is everywhere as the witness of every act of yours, that God is in every being you meet and serve, then, you will certainly be rewarded by a Vision of the Lord. When you have this brilliant chance, do not let it go through ignorance or negligence. The best way to win Grace is to obey instructions, follow the advice, and submit to the control
