El hogar (griha) en que no se oye el Nombre del Señor es una caverna (guha). Cuando entren a su casa, cuando salgan de ella, y mientras estén allí, perfúmenla, ilumínenla y purifíquenla con Su Nombre. Enciéndanlo como una lámpara al atardecer, y denle la bienvenida al amanecer, como dan la bienvenida al sol. Este es el genuino Deepavali, el festival de las luces. Estén firmemente persuadidos de que el Nombre es la embarcación que los ayudará a atravesar el mar de la vida mundana. El Nombre es más eficaz que la contemplación de la Forma. En este día de Deepavali, adopten la resolución de encender la lámpara de Namasmarana (cantar el Nombre de Dios), y colóquenla en el umbral de la puerta, los labios. Aliméntenla con el aceite de la devoción, y que la estabilidad sea la mecha. Que la lámpara ilumine cada minuto de
su vida. El esplendor del Nombre disipará la oscuridad que hay fuera de ustedes, así como también la que está dentro. Difundirán alegria y paz entre todos los que se les aproximen. (Divino Discurso, 24 de octubre de 1965)

 

The home (griha) where the Lord’s Name is not heard is a dark cave (guha)! As you enter home, as you leave it, and while you are in it, perfume it, illumine it and purify it with His Name. Light it as a lamp at dusk and welcome it at dawn as you welcome the Sun. That is the genuine Deepavali, the festival of lamps. Firmly believe that the Name is the boat which will help you cross the sea of worldly life. The Name is more efficacious than the contemplation of the Form. On this Deepavali Day, resolve to light the lamp of Namasmarana (chanting the Name of God) and place it at your doorstep, the lips. Feed it with the oil of devotion, let steadiness be the wick. Let the lamp illumine every minute of your life. The splendour of the Name will drive darkness from outside you as well as from within you. You will spread joy and peace amongst all who come near you. (Divine Discourse, 24-Oct-1965)

El ser humano es una combinación de hombre, bestia y Dios, y en el inevitable conflicto entre los tres por la supremacía, ustedes deben asegurarse de que gane Dios, suprimiendo al mero humano y la humilde bestia. Este festival de Deepavali es para expresar gratitud por la derrota de las tendencias demoníacas en el hombre, que lo arrastran hacia abajo desde la divinidad. Naraka significa infierno, y Narakasura es el demonio cuya muerte a manos de Krishna se celebra en este día. The human being is a composite of man, beast and God, and in the inevitable struggle among the three for ascendency, you must ensure that God wins, suppressing the merely human and the lowly beast. This festival of Deepavali is to express gratitude at the defeat of the demonic tendencies in man, which drag him down from Divinity. Naraka means hell, and Narakasura is the demon whose death at the hands of Krishna is celebrated on this day. He is the personification of all the traits of character that obstruct the upward impulses of man. How did he meet his end? He died with the vision of Lord Krishna. This Consummation is truly admirable. Remind yourself that you must aspire for the destruction of demonic qualities in this very birth. This is the true spirit of Deepavali. Ustedes pueden adquirir diversos tipos de conocimientos, y viajar por todo el mundo; pero, a pesar de todos sus logros mundanos, no son capaces de comprender el principio del amor. Una vez que hayan probado el sabor del amor desinteresado, verán el mundo en su verdadera forma. Por lo tanto, háganse auténticas encarnaciones del amor. Que el amor fluya sin cesar de su corazón. Sumérjanse en la corriente del amor. Del amor emergen la verdad y la rectitud. Hablen con la verdad, practiquen la rectitud. La verdad y la rectitud son los dos pilares sobre los que descansa la mansión de la vida humana. Adoren el amor. Vivan en el amor. No es suficiente con que solo incorporen el amor; también deben asimilarlo y digerirlo. Solo entonces, la esencia del amor se difundirá a cada célula de su cuerpo, dándoles inmensa fuerza y sabiduría. (Divino Discurso, 17 de octubre de 2003).

 

You may acquire various types of knowledge and travel across the globe. But, in spite of all your worldly achievements, you are not able to understand the principle of love. Once you have the taste of selfless love, you will see the world in its real form. Therefore, truly become embodiments of love. Let love flow incessantly from your heart. Immerse yourself in the flow of love. Out of love, emerges truth and righteousness. Speak the truth, practice righteousness. Truth and righteousness are the two pillars on which the mansion of human life rests. Adore love. Live in love. There is no greater education than this. Traverse the path of love. Partake of the food of love. It is not enough if you merely partake of love, you should also assimilate and digest it. Only then the essence of love will spread to every cell of your body giving you immense strength and wisdom. (Divine Discourse, Oct 17, 2003)

No tiene sentido hablar con dulzura, si no hay dulzura en su corazón. Dulzura en el habla y amargura en el corazón no representan la cualidad de un ser humano. Debe haber dulzura en su pensamiento, palabra y acción. Este es el verdadero signo de un ser humano. En ustedes hay amor, pero no son capaces de expresarlo de manera adecuada. Deben llenar su vida de amor desinteresado. En este mundo, no hay nada superior al amor. Los seres humanos son considerados los más sagrados, porque tienen la singular cualidad del amor. Sin embargo, ustedes no son capaces de darse cuenta del valor del nacimiento humano. Dios encarna en la forma humana para difundir el mensaje del amor desinteresado. Una vez que ustedes tengan en el corazón amor desinteresado, podrán conquistar el mundo entero. (Divino Discurso, 17 de octubre de 2003)

 

There is no point in talking sweetly if there is no sweetness in your heart. Sweetness in speech and bitterness in heart is not the quality of a human being. There should be sweetness in your thought, word and deed. This is the true sign of a human being. There is love in you, but you are not able to express it in the proper way. You should fill your life with selfless love. There is nothing superior to love in this world. Human beings are considered to be most sacred because they have the unique quality of love in them. But you are not able to realize the value of human birth. God incarnates in human form in order to spread the message of selfless love. Once you have selfless love in your heart, you can conquer the whole world. (Divine Discourse, Oct 17, 2003)
