Putlibai, la madre de Gandhi, observaba un voto por el cual no tomaba alimentos hasta haber oído el canto de un cuclillo. Una vez, ella esperó largo rato, y el canto del cuclillo no se oía. Preocupado porque su madre adhería al voto y no se alimentaba, el pequeño Gandhi fue detrás de la casa e imitó el canto del cuclillo. Volvió a entrar y le dijo a su madre que tomara su alimento, ya que el cuclillo había cantado. La Madre Putlibai se sintió muy triste, porque sabía que su hijo estaba mintiendo. Lloró, diciendo: «Oh, Dios, qué pecado he cometido, para dar a luz un hijo que dice falsedades?» Comprendiendo la inmensa pena que había causado a su madre al proferir una mentira, Gandhi juró que nunca más se permitiría la falsedad. Madres, enseñen a sus hijos los valores morales, y no dejen pasar sus errores. Deben
reformarlos toda vez que equivocan el recto camino, y premiarlos por sus buenas acciones. (Discurso Divino, 6 de mayo de 2001)

 

Putlibai, Gandhi mother observed a vow wherein she would not take food until she heard a cuckoo sing. One day, she waited long and the song of a cuckoo was not heard. Worried that his mother is sticking to her vow and not taking food, young Gandhi went behind the house and mimicked a cuckoo singing. He came inside and told his mother to have her food as the cuckoo sang. Mother Putlibai felt very sad as she knew her son was lying. She cried, “O God! What sin have I committed to give birth to a son who speaks untruth?” Realising the immense grief he caused to his mother by uttering a lie, Gandhi took a vow that he would never indulge in falsehood thenceforth. Mothers, train your children in moral values and do not overlook your children’s mistakes. You must reform them whenever they stray away from the right path and reward them for their good deeds. Ustedes pueden redimir su vida sólo si comprenden de dónde vienen, el papel que cumplen actualmente, y su destino. Para lograr esto, en primer lugar aprendan el uso correcto de sus órganos de los sentidos (Indriyas). Por ejemplo, consideren sus fosas nasales. Están diseñadas para respirar y para oler objetos, desechando lo que tenga mal olor. ¿Se han dado cuenta de que el proceso respiratorio también transmite un importante mensaje espiritual, cuando inhalan y exhalan aire a cada segundo? Allí está contenido el preciado mantra «So Ham», llamado Hamsa Gayatri, que es la esencia del no dualismo (Advaita). So Ham debe recordarles el mensaje de la identidad entre Dios (So) y ustedes (Aham). ¿Por qué lo olvidan, y en lugar de usar su nariz para propósitos sagrados, la usan para aspirar tabaco en polvo? Al abusar, la convierten en la causa fundamental de diversas
enfermedades respiratorias. Por eso, reconozcan el papel decisivo de los sentidos, y utilícenlos correctamente. (Discurso Divino, 6 de octubre de 1997)

 

You can redeem your life only when you understand wherefrom you came, your role presently and your destination. To accomplish this, first learn the righteous usage of your sense organs (Indriyas). For instance, consider your nostrils. They are designed to be used to breathe and smell objects and discard that is foul-smelling. Did you ever realise that the respiratory process also conveys a significant spiritual message when you inhale and exhale air every second? It contains the precious mantra, ‘So-hum’, which is called Hamsa Gayatri and is the essence of non-dualism (Advaita). So-Ham should remind you the message of identity between God (So) and you (Aham). Why do you forget this and instead of using your nose for sacred goals, use it to take snuff? By abusing, you make it the root-cause of various respiratory diseases. Most ailments people suffer today are due to the use of sense organs for improper purposes. Hence, recognise the
critical role of the senses and use them righteously. (Divine Discourse, Oct 6, 1997)

Frecuentemente Swami exhorta así a los devotos: «Hagan el viaje de la vida con ayuda de los valores humanos». Que su vida esté saturada de verdad (Sathya), rectitud (Dharma), paz (Shanthi) y amor (Prema). Dios es la Verdad (Atma). Dharma es el deber que cada uno debe cumplir con ahínco. Por lo tanto, lleven a cabo su dharma con verdad. Estos dos constituyen, de hecho, la única práctica espiritual (Sadhana) que deben emprender. Ellos los protegerán, en todas las maneras posibles, todo el tiempo. Ellos alivian toda pena y dificultad. Ningún ser humano, durante el periplo de su vida en este mundo físico, debe abandonar la verdad ni la rectitud (Sathya y Dharma). La verdad debe ser experimentada en el corazón, mientras que la rectitud debe reflejarse en nuestras acciones. Nunca olviden que el Amor es Dios. Toda actividad que emprendan con amor se convertirá en un

Swami frequently exhorts the devotees, “Lead your life’s journey with the help of human values.” Let your daily life be suffused with truth (Sathya), righteousness (Dharma), peace (Shanthi) and love (Prema). God is Truth (Atma). Dharma is the duty that every one of us must perform earnestly. Hence, discharge your dharma with truth. These two are in fact the only spiritual practice (Sadhana) you must undertake. These two alone will protect you in every way, all the time. They alleviate all sorrows and difficulties. No human being, during the course of his or her life’s sojourn in this physical world should give up truth and righteousness (Sathya and Dharma). Truth must be experienced in one’s heart, while righteousness has to be reflected in one’s deeds. Never forget, Love is God. Whatever activity you undertake with love, it becomes a success. «Navaratri» significa nueve noches. La oscuridad se asocia con la noche. ¿Qué es esta oscuridad? Es la oscuridad de la ignorancia. El propósito de las celebraciones de Navaratri es permitirles a ustedes sobreponerse a la oscuridad que los ha envuelto. Cuando se hace referencia a Devi se alude a la forma unificada de Durga, Lakshmi y Saraswathi. Lakshmi, quien es la encarnación de toda prosperidad, es representada por el corazón. La boca representa a Saraswathi. La pureza en la acción (Kriya Shuddhi) está representada por Durga. Para obtener la gracia del Señor, ustedes deben cultivar la pureza del corazón, la pureza en el habla y la pureza en la acción. Esta triple pureza es descripta en lenguaje védico como «Tripurasundari». Observen Navaratri para librarse de la oscuridad en su propio interior, al cultivar la triple pureza de pensamiento, palabra y
acción. En esta sagrada ocasión de Navaratri deben reverenciar también a la Naturaleza. Los recursos naturales, tales como el agua, el aire, la energía y los minerales, deben ser utilizados económicamente, sin usos indebidos, abuso ni despilfarro.

 

‘Navaratri’ means nine nights. Darkness is associated with night. What is this darkness? It is the darkness of ignorance. The purpose of the Navaratri celebrations is to enable you to win over darkness which has enveloped you. When a reference is made to Devi, it signifies the unified form of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi. Lakshmi, who is the embodiment of all prosperity, is represented by the heart. The mouth represents Saraswathi. Purity in action (Kriya Shuddhi) is represented by Durga. To secure the grace of the Lord, you must cultivate purity of the heart, purity in speech and purity in action. This triple purity is described in Vedantic parlance as ‘Tripurasundari’. Observe Navaratri to get rid of the darkness within you, by cultivating the triple purity of thought, word and deed. On this sacred occasion of Navaratri, you must also revere Nature. Natural resources like water, air, power and minerals must be used
economically, without misuse, abuse or waste. (Divine Discourse, Sep 27, 1992)
