Son millones los que recitan el Nombre del Señor, ¡pero pocos tienen fe firme ! Muchos menos aún son los que buscan la bienaventuranza que puede conferir la contemplación en la gloria del Dios interior, el Atma. Algunas personas se quejan de que la recitación del Nombre («Japam») ¡no ha curado su dolor, o su pena, o su codicia ! Eso es porque recitan las oraciones mecánicamente, meditan sin adquirir el hábito, o por conformidad social, o para lograr una reputación de religiosidad . Cuando las personas que han aprendido las preciosas Escrituras que revelan el «Atma-vidya» (la ciencia del Yo) no ponen en práctica lo que repiten oralmente, y no tienen fe en sus afirmaciones, ¿ qué ganancias pueden extraer de sus recitaciones ? La corrosión de la duda ha minado sus actitudes reverenciales hacia las Escrituras. Esta gente devalúa las Escrituras
transformándolas en medios de obtención de dinero o fama, y cuando no consigue estos objetivos se siente desilusionada, y envidia a aquellos que persiguen entretenimientos mundanos. Pero si tan sólo desarrollaran fe, las mismas Escrituras los alentarían y les asegurarían una vida feliz y satisfecha. (Divino Discurso, 23 Febrero 1968).

 

Millions recite the Lord’s Name, but few have steady faith! Fewer seek the bliss (Ananda) that contemplation on the glory of God within, the Atma, can confer. Some people complain that recitation (japam) has not cured their pain, grief or greed! It is because they mechanically recite prayers and meditate out of habit or for social conformity or to gain reputation for religiousness! When people who have learnt the precious scriptures revealing Atma-vidya (science of the Self) do not put into practice what they repeat orally and have no faith in the assertions, what profit can they get from it? The canker of doubt has undermined their reverential attitude to the scripture. They devalue the scriptures into money-or-fame-earning devices, and when they do not get money or fame through them, they are disappointed. They envy those who follow secular avocations. But if they only develop faith, scriptures themselves will foster them and
ensure for them a happy and contented life. (Divine Discourse, Feb 23, 1968)

En la pesca, el pescador utiliza una caña y una línea. Dicha línea posee un flotador del cual pende, dentro del agua, un afilado anzuelo con una lombriz. El pez es atraído por la lombriz hacia el anzuelo, y cuando el flotador se sacude es señal de que ha mordido el anzuelo, por lo que el pescador tira de la línea y coloca al pez en tierra, donde queda indefenso e imposibilitado de respirar. Similarmente, tu cuerpo es como la caña, tu anhelo o deseo es como la linea, tu inteligencia es como el flotador, la discriminación es como el anzuelo, y el conocimiento es como la lombriz. ¡Así atrapa un pescador inteligente al pez de la Divinidad (Atma) !. Cuando logras sabiduría espiritual eres atraído hacia lo Divino («Kaivalyam»), estado en el que experimentas al Señor como todo-comprensivo, como Voluntad, como Actividad, como Bienaventuranza, como Inteligencia y como
Existencia. Para quedar firmemente establecido en este estado Divino, debes suprimir tu ignorancia («Tamas»), sublimar tus pasiones («Rajas»), y cultivar asiduamente la pureza («Sathwa»). Divino Discurso, 26 febrero 1968.

 

In fishing, the angler uses a rod and a line; that line has a float from which hangs inside the water a sharp hook with a worm. The fish is drawn by the worm to the hook, the float shakes, the angler feels the pull of the fish on the line, and he draws it on the land, where it is helpless and unable to breathe. Your body is the rod, your yearning or the eager longing is the line, your intelligence is the float, discrimination is the hook and knowledge is the worm; a clever angler thus catches the fish of the Divine (Atma)! When you get spiritual wisdom, you are drawn to the Divine (Kaivalyam). Kaivalyam is the state in which you experience the Lord as all-comprehensive, as Will, as Activity, as Bliss, as Intelligence and as Existence. To be firmly established in this Divine State, you must suppress your ignorance (tamas), sublimate your passions (rajas) and assiduously cultivate purity (sathwa). (Divine Discourse, Feb 26, 1968)

Hazte esta pregunta cada mañana: «¿Cuál es la gran victoria que debo esforzarme por obtener en esta vida, y para la cual me están preparando estas luchas ?». Recuérdate que tu cuerpo es la carroza, el intelecto («Buddhi») es el auriga, los deseos son los caminos que recorres jalado por la soga de los apegos sensuales, y que la Liberación («Moksha») es la meta. El Divino Yo interior debería ser tu Guía y tu Meta. Si anhelas escapar a las consecuencias del nacimiento y de la muerte, limpia tu mente de modo tan efectivo ¡que casi quede eliminada ! Esto sólo es posible cuando te identificas con tu Morador Interior («Dehi») antes que con tu cuerpo («Deha»). Tu cuerpo es el estuche del Atma, ganado como recompensa por las actividades mentales y corporales de uno. Cuando vives consciente del omnipresente Divino, vives en amor, un amor que surge de tu interior y se filtra a través
de ti hacia todos los que te rodean. Siempre experimentarás amor, paz y alegría, naturalmente . (Divino Discurso, 13 Enero 1969).

 

Every morning ask yourself this question: «What is the grand victory I must strive for in this life, for which these struggles are preparing me? Remind yourself that your body is the chariot, intellect (buddhi) is the charioteer, desires are the roads which you tread drawn by the rope of sensual attachments, and liberation (moksha) is the goal; the Divine Self within should be your Guide and Goal. If you yearn to escape the consequences of birth and death, cleanse your mind so effectively that it is nearly eliminated! This is possible only when you identify yourself with the Indweller within you (Dehi), rather than with the body (Deha)! Your body is the casket of the Atma, earned as a reward for one’s activities of mind and body. When you live in the consciousness of the omnipresent Divine, you live in love – love surging within and through you, to everyone around you. You will naturally experience love, peace and joy, always!

La vaca transforma el pasto y el cereal que ingiere, en una dulce y fortificante leche que ofrece con generosidad a su dueño. Desarrolla tú esa cualidad, ese poder de transformar el alimento que consumes en dulces pensamientos, palabras y actos de compasión para con todos. Cuando tu corazón esté rebosante de virtudes, el Señor derramará Su Gracia sobre ti pródigamente. Draupadi se ganó la Gracia del Señor mediante su devoción y virtudes. Sin constancia y sin firmeza en la fe, nadie puede recibir la Gracia. Esfuérzate para ganarla observando la disciplina que me interesa que sigas. Abandona de una vez tus viejos hábitos mundanos de ganar y gastar dinero, de ahorrar y acumular con codicia, y deja ya la lujuria, la malicia y el orgullo. No desperdicies tiempo en chismeríos banales, habla suave y dulcemente pero charla lo menos posible. Sirve a todos como
hermanos que adoran al Señor dentro de sí. Involúcrate en «sadhana», y da cada uno de tus pasos como cuadra a una persona que se esfuerza por tomar conciencia de Dios.. (Divino Discurso, 11 Enero 1968)

 

The cow transforms grass and gruel into sweet strength-giving milk and gives it away in plenty to its master. Develop that quality, that power to transform the food you consume into sweet thoughts, words and deeds of compassion for all. When your heart is filled with virtues, the Lord will shower His Grace abundantly. Draupadi earned the Lord’s Grace through her devotion and virtues. Without steadfastness and depth of faith, none can receive Grace. Endeavour to earn Grace by observing the discipline that I am keen you should follow. Give up your old worldly ways of earning and spending, saving and accumulating with greed, lust, malice and pride. Do not waste time in idle gossip. Talk softly and sweetly, and talk as little as possible. Serve all as brothers and sisters adoring the Lord in them. Engage in sadhana; move every step as befits a person striving to realise God.
