La mente de ustedes también está llena del mundo, y su estómago demanda demasiado tiempo y energía. Sus deseos y carencias se multiplican más rápido que su capacidad de satisfacerlos, y sus sueños son demasiado caprichosos, conduciéndolos a victorias falsas y aventuras absurdas. Absortos en el análisis del mundo material, han perdido todo sentido del espíritu, la dulzura y la sublimidad. Bajo este nuevo ordenamiento, la verdad es sólo otra palabra en el diccionario. La compasión se reduce a una parodia sin sentido. Las personas carecen de confianza en sí mismas. A la menor provocación se transforman rápidamente en bestias salvajes y perversas. La humildad, la paciencia y la reverencia son tan deleznables como una lámpara demasiado distante o apagada. La única esperanza que ustedes tienen en la terrible oscuridad de hoy, es el nombre
de Dios. Esta es la balsa que los llevará a través de ese mar tormentoso, oscurecido por el odio y el miedo, agitado por la ansiedad y el terror. Aférrense a él con toda determinación y fe inamovible. (Discurso Divino, 26 de febrero de 1968)

 

Your mind is too full of the world and your stomach demands too much of your time and energy. Desires and wants are multiplying faster than your capacity to satisfy them, and your dreams are far too fanciful, leading you into false victories and absurd adventures. Engrossed in the analysis of the material world, you have lost all sense of spirit, sweetness and sublimity. Under this new dispensation, truth is yet another word in the dictionary. Compassion is reduced to a meaningless travesty. People lack self-confidence. Even at the slightest provocation, you are rapidly transformed into a wild and vicious beast. Humility, patience, reverence – these are as invalid as a flameless lamp in the far distance. The only hope you have in today’s dreadful darkness is the name of God. That is the raft which will take you across this stormy sea, darkened by hate and fear, and churned by anxiety and terror. Take it with all earnestness and steadfast faith.

¿De qué sirve la sola adoración del nombre y la forma de Dios que sean de su preferencia, si no intentan cultivar el amor que tiene Dios para todos por igual (samatwa), ni Su serena ecuanimidad (shanti), Su abundante amor (prema), Su infinita paciencia y fortaleza (sahana) y Su naturaleza siempre bienaventurada (ananda)? En sus conferencias, ustedes se explayan sobre los incidentes descriptos como «milagros» en libros escritos acerca de Mí por alguien, como los singulares poderes de Sai. Les solicito que no adjudiquen importancia a esto. No exageren su significación; el poder más significativo e importante es Mi amor desinteresado (prema). Yo puedo convertir el cielo en tierra o la tierra en cielo, pero esto no es el signo del poderío divino. El abundante amor, universal y siempre presente: ¡este es el signo singular de la Divinidad! No caigan en el error de considerar que algunos son dignos de
reverencia y otros indignos. Sai está en cada persona; por lo tanto, todos merecen su reverencia y su servicio. (Discurso Divino, 17 de mayo de 1968)

 

Of what avail is it if you simply worship your choicest God’s name and form, without attempting to cultivate the samatwa (equal love for all) that God has, and His unruffled equanimity (shanthi), His abundant love (prema), His infinite patience and fortitude (sahana), and His ever-blissful nature (ananda)? In your lectures you elaborate on the the incidents that are described as ‘miracles’ in books written on Me by someone as the unique powers of Sai. I request you not to attach importance to these. Do not exaggerate their significance; the most significant and important power is My selfless love (prema). I may turn the sky into earth, or earth into sky, but that is not the sign of Divine might. The abundant love that is universal and ever-present – this is the unique sign of Divinity. Do not fall into the error of considering some to be worthy of reverence and some unworthy. Sai is in every one, so all deserve your reverence and service!

El rosario (japamala) es muy útil para los principiantes en el camino espiritual, pero a medida que se progresa, japa, o la repetición del Nombre, debe llegar a ser el aliento mismo de la vida, de modo que la rotación de cuentas resulte superflua. La práctica debe conducirlos a «Sarvada sarva kaleshu sarvatra Hari chintanam», es decir que debemos meditar siempre en el Señor, en todo momento y en todo lugar. Tal como un flotador que se desecha después de haber aprendido a nadar, el japamala es sólo un artefacto para favorecer la concentración y la contemplación sistemática. Es más importante no tener rastro de odio en la mente y desarrollar prema (amor) hacia todos. El deseo es una tormenta, la codicia es un remolino, el orgullo es un precipicio, el apego es una avalancha y el egoísmo es un volcán. Mantengan lejos estas cosas, para que no alteren la ecuanimidad
cuando ustedes hacen japa-dhyana (contemplación meditativa). Que el amor esté entronizado en su corazón. Entonces brillará el sol, habrá brisa fresca y borboteantes aguas de contento alimentando las raíces de la fe. (Discurso Divino, 10 de mayo de 1969)

 

The rosary (japamala) is very useful for beginners in the spiritual path, but as you progress, japa or repetition of the Name must become the very breath of your life, and so, the rotation of beads become superfluous. The practice should lead you to ‘Sarvada sarva kaleshu sarvatra Hari chintanam’, meaning, one should meditate upon the Lord always, at all times, and in all places. Just as you discard the belt after you learn to swim, and the crutches when you start walking, japamala is just a contrivance to help concentration and systematic contemplation. More importantly, have no thorn of hate in your mind, and develop prema (Love) towards all. Desire is a storm, greed is a whirlpool, pride is a precipice, attachment is an avalanche, and egoism is a volcano. Keep these things away so that, as you do japa-dhyana (meditative contemplation), they do not disturb the equanimity. Let love be enthroned in your heart. Then, there will be sunshine, cool
breeze, and gurgling waters of contentment feeding the roots of faith. [Divine Discourse, May 10, 1969]

Las ideas de superioridad e inferioridad surgen sólo en un corazón corrupto por el egoísmo. Si alguien argumenta que es superior, y que su camino de adoración es más sagrado, es prueba de que ha errado el núcleo mismo de la fe. El esfuerzo espiritual (sadhana) debe revelar la unidad de toda la creación. Pregúntense lo siguiente: cuando se levantan después de cantar bhajans o meditar, ¿ven a todos bajo una luz más clara, como dotados de divinidad? ¿Aman más, hablan menos, sirven a los demás con mayor empeño? Estos son los signos de éxito en el Sadhana. El progreso debe ser autenticado por su carácter y su comportamiento. Hasta una roca, por acción del sol, la lluvia, el calor y el frío, se desintegrará hasta ser barro y convertirse en alimento para un árbol. El Sadhana debe transmutar la actitud de ustedes
hacia los seres y las cosas; de otro modo, es una farsa, una pérdida de tiempo. Recuerden que hasta el corazón más duro puede ablandarse, y en él brotará la divinidad. (Discurso Divino, 13 de enero de 1969)

 

Ideas of superiority and inferiority arise only in a heart corrupted by egoism. If someone argues that they are superior and their path to worship is holier, it is proof that they missed the very core of faith. Spiritual efforts (sadhana) must reveal the unity in all creation. Ask yourself this: When you rise after bhajans or meditation, do you see everyone in a clearer light, as endowed with Divinity? Do you love more, do you talk less, do you serve others more earnestly? These are the signs of success in Sadhana. Your progress must be authenticated by your character and behaviour. Even a boulder will, through the action of sun, rain, heat and cold, disintegrate into mud and become food for a tree. Sadhana must transmute your attitude towards beings and things; else it is a hoax, a waste of your time! Remember, even the hardest of hearts can be softened and Divine will sprout therein – so, do not give up! [Divine Discourse, Jan 13, 1969]
