El nacimiento humano es el más noble de todos, el producto final de edades indescriptibles de su propia evolución progresiva. Pregúntense: ¿están esforzándose conscientemente por vivir a la altura de este precioso regalo que han ganado? A partir de ahora, conviertan cada día de vida en una ofrenda continua de Amor, como una lámpara de aceite que se agota para iluminar el entorno. Usen la insignia invisible de los voluntarios de Dios a todas horas y en todo sitio. Inclinen el cuerpo, reparen los sentidos y paren la mente: ese es el proceso para alcanzar el estado de «hijos de la inmortalidad» que los Upanishads les han reservado. Dios es la encarnación de la dulzura. Alcáncenlo ofreciéndole la dulzura con la que Él los ha dotado. Trituren la caña en el molino del servicio, hiérvanla en el caldero de la penitencia, decolórenla de todo deseo sensual,
y ofrézcanle el azúcar cristalizado del Amor compasivo a Él. [Discurso Divino, 26 de junio de 1969].

 

Human birth is the noblest of all, the final product of untold ages of your own progressive evolution. Ask yourself this: Are you consciously striving to live up to this precious gift you’ve won? From now on, make every living day a continuous offering of Love, like an oil lamp that exhausts itself in illumining the surroundings. Wear the invisible badge of a volunteer of God at all hours and in all places. Bend the body, mend the senses, and end the mind – that is the process of attaining the status of ‘the children of immortality,’ which the Upanishads have reserved for you. God is the embodiment of sweetness. Attain Him by offering Him the sweetness that He has endowed you with. Crush the cane in the mill of service, boil it in the cauldron of penitence, decolorise it of all sensual itch, and offer the crystallised sugar of compassionate Love to Him. El espíritu de sacrificio es el prerrequisito básico para cada sevak (servidor). Sin la inspiración del sentido del sacrificio, tu seva será hipocresía, un ritual hueco. ¡Usas la bufanda sevadal sobre tu ropa, ¡solo para quitártela pronto! Cuando te quitas la bufanda, te sientes aliviado de que te hayan liberado de la obligación de amar y servir. Al hacerlo, solo estás desempeñando un papel temporal en un drama, poniéndote una bufanda y quitándotela. Internaliza el espíritu de sacrificio en tu corazón, en forma profunda y clara. Dios es Amor y solo se lo puede ganar a través del cultivo y ejercicio del Amor. No se lo puede atrapar con ningún truco; Él otorga gracia solo cuando se siguen Sus mandamientos, el mandamiento de amar a todos y servir a todos. Cuando haces esto, te estás sirviendo más a ti mismo: ¡a
ti mismo a quien amas más! Porque entonces la gracia de Dios te envuelve y eres fortalecido más allá de toda experiencia previa. [Discurso Divino, 26 de junio de 1969].

 

The spirit of sacrifice is the basic prerequisite for every sevak (servitor). Without the inspiration of the sense of sacrifice, your seva will be hypocrisy, a hollow ritual. You wear the sevadal scarf over your apparel, only to remove it soon! When you remove the scarf, you feel relieved that you have been released from the obligation to love and serve. In doing so, you are only playing a temporary role in a drama, donning a scarf and doffing it. Internalise the spirit of sacrifice in your heart, deep and clear. God is Love and can be won only through the cultivation and exercise of Love. He cannot be trapped by any trick; He bestows grace only when His commands are followed – the command to love all and serve all. When you do this, you are serving yourself most – yourself whom you love most! For God’s Grace envelops you then, and you are strengthened beyond all previous experience. La gente ignora que el tiempo santificado por el servicio ofrece elevadas recompensas para sí mismos, así como para aquellos a quienes sirven. Los actos de servicio no son todos iguales, ni uniformes en cuanto a los beneficios que confieren. Cuando el servicio es emprendido por personas hambrientas de poder, o bajo cumpulsión, o por impulsos imitativos, resulta en más daño que bien. El engrandencimiento personal, la competición y la ostentación son motivos que contaminan el sagrado Sadhana de Servicio. El candidato para esta actividad espiritual tiene que evitar ahamkara (el egoísmo), adambra (exhibicionismo) y abhimana (favoritismo). Antes de embarcarnos en un proyecto de servicio, debemos hacer introspección y examinar si el corazón está lleno de amor desinteresado, humildad y compasión; si nuestra cabeza está dotada de comprensión inteligente, y el
conocimiento del problema y su solución; si las manos están ansiosas de ofrecer el toque sanador, y si uno puede hacerse y compartir el tiempo, la energía y la hablidad para ayudar a otros en estado de gran necesidad.

People are not aware that time sanctified by service offers high rewards to themselves as well as to those whom they serve. All acts of service are not equally sanctifying or uniform in the benefits they confer. When service is undertaken by power-hungry people, or under compulsion or by imitative urges, it results in more harm than good. Self-aggrandizement or competition or ostentation are motives that will pollute the sacred Sadhana of Service. The candidate for this spiritual activity has to avoid ahamkara (egoism), adambara (exhibitionism) and abhimana (favouritism). Before embarking on a service project one must introspect and examine if the heart is full of selfless love, humility and compassion; whether one’s head has the intelligent understanding and knowledge of the problem and its solution; whether the hands are eager to offer the healing touch, and whether one can gladly spare and share time, energy and skill to help others in dire
