La preocupación por el bienestar y la felicidad de uno mismo es la perdición de la mentalidad dualista. Engendra descontento y tristeza. Los sentimientos de apego y aversión manchan la mente. La mente puede ser purificada a través del servicio. Las observancias externas como bañarse varias veces al día, esparcir Vibhuti por todos lados y cantar mantras mecánicamente, no servirán para limpiar las impurezas de la mente. Estas son solo un espectáculo exterior, sin nada espiritual en ellas. El conocimiento trascendental, que ayudará a elevar al hombre del nivel animal, puede obtenerse a través de una investigación diligente y una fe firme. Esto está siendo ignorado hoy. Percibiendo la falsedad como verdad y tratando la verdad como falsedad, las personas están inmersas en la acumulación de objetos efímeros, considerándolos como
permanentes. Deben salir de este estrecho surco, superar sus tendencias egoístas y aprender a considerar a toda la humanidad como una sola familia. Ese es verdadero servicio. Pocos tienen un enfoque tan grande y generoso hoy en día. ( Divino Discurso del 19 de noviembre de 1987)

 

Preoccupation with one’s own welfare and happiness is the bane of the dualistic mentality. It breeds discontent and sorrow. Feelings of attachment and aversion sully the mind. The mind can be purified through service. External observances like bathing several times a day, smearing Vibhuti all over and chanting mantras mechanically will not serve to cleanse the mind of impurities. These are only outward show, with nothing spiritual about them. Transcendental knowledge, which will help to raise man from the animal level, can be got through diligent enquiry and steadfast faith. This is being ignored today. Perceiving untruth as truth and treating truth as untruth, people are immersed in accumulating ephemeral objects, considering them as permanent. You must get out of this narrow groove, outgrow your selfish tendencies and learn to regard the whole of mankind as one family. That is true service. Few have such a large-hearted approach today. No se regocijen en las riquezas, el estatus, la autoridad, la inteligencia, etc., que puedan tener. Consideren que les han sido entregados en fideicomiso, para que puedan beneficiar a otros. Todos son signos de Su Gracia, oportunidades de servicio y símbolos de responsabilidad. Lidien compasivamente con los errores de los demás. Busquen lo bueno en los demás, escuchen solo cosas buenas acerca de ellos y no presten atención al escándalo. Hay un episodio del Kaliya durante el Avatar Krishna. Su significado interno es: la serpiente Kaliya y sus secuaces son los deseos que acechan en las profundidades del corazón; el Señor salta dentro de esa profundidad, o más bien derrama Su Gracia y el veneno es expulsado, y el lugar es transformado en seguro y puro. Cuando Krishna baila en las capuchas de las serpientes, ellas son domesticadas y hechas inofensivas. Sin la extinción del deseo, uno no puede
volverse Divino. ¿De qué sirve repetir Shivoham, Shivoham (Yo soy Shiva) cuando no se han esforzado por equiparse con las cualidades de Shiva? Divino Discurso del 24 de octubre de 1965.

 

Do not get elated at the riches, status, authority, intelligence, etc., which you may have. Consider that they have been given to you on trust, so that you may benefit others. They are all signs of His Grace, opportunities of service, and symbols of responsibility. Deal sympathetically with the mistakes of others. Seek the good in others, hear only good tidings about them, and do not give ear to scandal. There is this Kaliya episode during the Krishna Avatar. The inner meaning of that is: The serpent Kaliya and its minions are the desires that lurk in the depths of the heart; into that depth the Lord jumps, or rather showers His Grace and the poison is expelled, and the place made safe and pure. When Krishna dances on the hoods, the serpents are tamed and rendered harmless. Without the extinction of desire, one cannot become Divine. Of what avail is it to repeat Shivoham, Shivoham (I am Shiva) when you have not endeavoured to equip yourself with the

¡Muchachos y Muchachas de corazones tiernos y dulces! En nuestra cultura tenemos cuatro mandatos: «Matru devo bhava, Pitru devo bhava, Acharya devo bhava , Atithi devo bhava- Consideren a la madre, el padre, maestro y los invitados como a Dios» Ya desde que llegaron a este mundo, su madre los ha amado, los ha nutrido con su propia sangre y está constantemente deseando su bienestar. Entonces, primero y principal deben aprender a respetarla. Su padre los proteje y piensa constantemente en su futuro, bienestar y properidad. En consecuencia deberían mostrar afecto y consideración hacia él tambén. La madre les da el cuerpo, el padre muestra las formas de protejerlo y desarrollarlo. Pero el maestro posibilita que la inteligencia en ustedes florezca. La vida no consiste sólo en comer. La educación es aquella que muestra cómo uno debería comportarse en la sociedad. En consecuencia el maestro
que les confiere esta habilidad debería ser honrado. Y la sociedad es el lugar en donde todos estos pueden ser utilizados. Como conclusión, consideren a los invitados como representativos de la sociedad, deberíamos ofrecerles el debido repeto y honor. Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Sweet and tender-hearted boys and girls! In our culture we have four injunctions: «Matru devo bhava, Pitru devo bhava, Acharya devo bhava, Atithi devo bhava – Regard your mother, father, teacher and guests as God”. Ever since you entered this world, your mother has loved you, has fostered you with her own blood and wishes for your welfare constantly. So first and foremost you must learn to respect her. Your father protects you and thinks constantly of your future, welfare and prosperity. Hence you should show affection and regards to him too. Mother gives you the body, father shows you ways of protecting and fostering it, but the teacher enables the intelligence in you to flourish. Life does not consist merely of eating. Education is that which shows how one should conduct oneself in society. So the teacher who gives you this ability should be honoured. And the society is the place where all of these can be put to use. Therefore, considering
guests as representatives of society, we should offer them the due respect and honour. [Divine Discourse, Nov 22, 1975]

Algunos afirman dado que este es el Kali Yuga, que la falsedad solamente puede triunfar. Sin embargo a pesar de todas las apariencias, la honestidad es todavía la mejor política. Cada mentira debe ser sostenida por cien más; en cambio ser veraz es fácil, seguro y simple. Es un trabajo duro mantener una postura falsa y en consecuencia, es siempre seguro ser correcto y honesto. No den el primer paso y luego sean impulsados, una y otra vez a la perdición. La verdad es la naturaleza real de uno mismo y cuando son ustedes mismos, fluye un gran caudal de gozo dentro de ustedes. Cuando se niegan y se engañan a sí mismos, la vergüenza oscurece sus mentes y alimenta el miedo. Toman la senda de la falsedad a causa de las cualidades rejásicas de lujuria, odio y orgullo. Contentamiento, humildad y desapego – estos los mantienen en la senda de la Verdad. La Verdad siempre triunfará; no duden de

Some say that since this is Kali yuga, falsehood alone can succeed. But in spite of all appearances, honesty is still the best policy. One lie must be buttressed by a hundred others; whereas being truthful is easy, safe and simple. It is a hard job to maintain a false stand and so, it is always safe to be straight and honest. Do not take the first false step and then be led, on and on, to perdition. Truth is one’s real nature and when you are yourself, there comes a great flood of joy welling up within you. When you deny and deceive yourself, shame darkens your mind and breeds fear. You take the path of falsehood because of the rajasik (passionate) qualities of lust, greed, hate and pride. Contentment, humility, and detachment – these keep you on the path of Truth. Truth will always triumph; do not doubt that in the least. [Divine Discourse, Oct 24, 1965]
