¿Cuál es la causa fundamental del descontento? Es la envidia. Este ha sido el acuciante vicio humano, desde el origen de los tiempos. Sólo se puede estar satisfecho con uno mismo cuando la envidia es erradicada del corazón. La persona satisfecha disfruta de la paz. ¿Cómo surge la envidia? Cuando uno se compara con aquellos que están en mejor situación, aquellos que ostentan funciones superiores, obtienen mejores calificaciones o son más apuestos. Por eso, la envidia surge cuando uno padece la conciencia de la propia inferioridad; básicamente uno está descontento con lo que tiene. Para librarse de esta mala cualidad, hay que mirar a aquellos que están peor que uno. A su debido tiempo, se desarrolla un sentido de ecuanimidad, tanto hacia quienes están mejor como hacia los que están peor. Esta ecuanimidad es una cualidad divina. No hay nada malo en aspirar a
posiciones más elevadas. Pero uno no debe sentirse envidioso hacia aquellos que están en tales posiciones. Abrigar tales sentimientos es un crimen. (Divino Discurso, 19 de enero de 1989)

 

What is the root cause of discontentment? It is envy. This has been the besetting human vice from the beginning of time. Only when envy is eradicated from the heart will one have self-satisfaction. The contented person enjoys peace. How does envy arise? When one compares oneself with those who are better off, who hold higher offices, score higher marks or are more handsome. Thus, it arises when one suffers from a consciousness of one’s own inferiority; it is basically discontent over what one lacks. To get rid of this evil quality one has to look at those who are worse off than oneself. In due course one develops a sense of equal-mindedness both towards those who are better off and those who are worse. Such equal-mindedness is a Divine quality. There is nothing wrong in aspiring for higher positions. But one should not feel envious about those who are in such positions. It is a crime to entertain such feelings. La primera cualidad que debes cultivar es la gratitud a la Divinidad. La gente agradece incluso los pequeños actos de servicio que se le hayan efectuado. ¿No es necesario estar agradecidos a la Divinidad, que nos ha provisto de tantos beneficios esenciales, a través de la Naturaleza y los cinco elementos? El aire que respiras, el agua que bebes y la tierra sobre la que caminas, son todos regalos de Dios. ¿Cuán agradecido estás al Sol, cuya luz no puede ser igualada por todos los focos eléctricos del mundo? ¿Pueden todos los artefactos bombeadores en el mundo proporcionar el agua que nos ofrece una sola lluvia? ¿Pueden todos los ventiladores del mundo dar tanta brisa como la que se obtiene cuando sopla el viento? Sin agradecer estos obsequios divinos, el ser humano busca lo trivial, y malgasta su vida. Los grandes sabios de antaño, que adoraban a Dios de diversas maneras,
consideraban la devoción como un medio de expresar gratitud a la Providencia. (Divino Discurso, 14 de enero de 1989)

 

The first quality that you have to cultivate is gratitude to the Divine. People are thankful for even small acts of service done to them. Is it not necessary to be grateful to the Divine who has provided us with so many essential benefits through Nature and the five elements? The air you breathe, the water you drink, and the earth on which you walk are all gifts of God. How grateful are you to the Sun, who provides light, which cannot be equalled by all the electric bulbs in the world? Can all the pumpsets in the world provide as much water as is offered in a single downpour of rain? Can all the fans in the world, provide as much breeze as you get when the wind blows? Without being grateful for these Divine gifts, man goes after the trivial and wastes his life. The great sages of yore who adored God in various ways considered devotion as a means of expressing gratitude to Providence.

El éxito está asegurado, en cualquier terreno y en cualquier momento, para la persona dotada de las seis preciosas cualidades de celo, coraje, fortaleza, inteligencia, capacidad y valor (Utsaham, Sahasam, Dhairyam, Buddhi, Shakti y Parakramam). Estas cualidades contribuyen al bienestar integral. Sin embargo, estas cualidades te desafían con diversas dificultades que debes enfrentar, de tiempo en tiempo. Así como un estudiante debe superar pruebas y exámenes para recibir un título, estas cualidades también están sujetas a dificultades, bajo la forma de pérdidas, preocupaciones, dolor, sufrimiento e incluso calumnia. Debes considerar tales dificultades como peldaños para tus logros más elevados. Tienes que superar esos problemas con valor y confianza en ti mismo, y avanzar. Cuando enfrentes tus dificultades con coraje, es seguro que triunfarás. (Divino Discurso, 14 de

In any field, at anytime, anywhere, for a person endowed with the six precious qualities of zeal, courage, fortitude, intelligence, ability and valour (Utsaham, Sahasam, Dhairyam, Buddhi, Shakti, Parakramam), success is assured. These qualities will contribute to all-round well-being. However these qualities will challenge you with various difficulties that you must confront, from time to time. Just as a student must clear tests and examinations to receive a degree, these qualities are also subject to trials in the form of losses, troubles, pain, suffering and even calumny. Such trials should be regarded as stepping stones to your high achievements. One has to overcome these troubles with courage and self-confidence, and move ahead. When you face difficulties with courage, you are bound to succeed.

Limpia tu corazón con el agua del amor y con los detergentes de la oración y el arrepentimiento, de manera de quitar por completo las manchas del deseo, y Dios derramará Su abundante Gracia sobre tí. Si tú anhelas a Dios, deberías renunciar a «Iokabhranti» y a «Dehabhranti» (el apego al mundo exterior y al cuerpo). De nada sirve tratar de colocar un pie en un bote y el otro pie en otro bote. Tú puedes llevar más de 20 años viviendo en Prashanti Nilayam, pero si te preocupas más por tus necesidades físicas, entonces todos tus esfuerzos espirituales son ciertamente inútiles; no has progresado en absoluto. El ondular de la llama de alcanfor al concluír los Bhajans es sólo para recordarte que tus anhelos sensuales deben ser completamente incinerados, sin dejar rastros detrás, y que tú debes ofrecerte a Dios para poder fundirte en Ël y en
Su Gloria. (Divino Discurso, 8 Seotiembre 1966).

 

Cleanse your heart with the water of love, and the detergents of prayer and contrition so that the stains of desire are removed completely. Then God will pour His abundant Grace into it. If you yearn for God, you should give up Iokabhranti and dehabhranti (attachment to the external world and to the body). There is no use trying to have one foot in one boat and the other foot in another. You may be living in PrashantiNilayam for over 20 years, but if you worry more about your physical needs, then all your spiritual efforts are indeed futile; you have made no progress at all. The waving of the camphor flame at the end of a bhajan is only to remind you that your sensual cravings must be fully burnt away without leaving any trace behind, and you must offer yourself to God to be merged in Him and His glory.
