Al ver un vaso lleno de agua hasta la mitad, el optimista se alegra de que el vaso esté medio lleno, mientras que el pesimista lamenta que esté medio vacío. Aunque ambas afirmaciones son correctas, el optimista espera llenar también la otra mitad, mientras que el pesimista se abandona a la desesperación. El optimista tiene fe y el pesimista no tiene fe que lo sostenga; esta es la diferencia fundamental. La fe es poder. Desarrollen la fe mediante el esfuerzo sostenido. Todos ustedes tienen fe en que un mañana seguirá al hoy, y por eso emprenden actividades y proyectos que se extienden más allá de este día. Las personas sin fe no pueden planear; cortejan la desgracia, debido a su falta de fe. La fe debe conducir al esfuerzo. A través del conocimiento, la fe y el esfuerzo, se puede alcanzar la sabiduría. Equipados con la misma, ustedes pueden escalar grandes alturas y
emerger victoriosos. No cultiven demasiada fe en cosas que son simplemente materiales. Desarrollen una profunda fe en la Verdad eternamente válida: Dios. (Divino Discurso, 27 de junio de 1981)

 

Seeing a glass half filled with water, the optimist is glad that the glass is half-full, while the pessimist is sad that it is half-empty. Though both the statements are correct the optimist hopes to fill the other half too, while the pessimist gives up in despair. The optimist has faith, the pessimist has no faith to sustain him – this is the key difference. Faith is power. Develop faith by steady effort. You all have faith in tomorrow following today and hence you take up activities and projects, that extend beyond this day! People with no faith cannot plan, they court misery due to their lack of faith! Faith must lead to effort. Through knowledge, faith and effort, wisdom can be attained. Equipped with these, you can scale great heights and emerge victoriously. Do not cultivate too much faith in things that are merely material. Develop deep faith in the eternally valid Truth – God! Entre las formas de práctica espiritual (Sadhana), el amor tiene el primer lugar. El amor es el supremo sello distintivo de la humanidad. El amor es Dios. Vivan en el amor. Comiencen el día con amor, llenen el día con amor y terminen el día con amor; este es el camino hacia Dios. También deben dedicarse al Servicio (Seva), evitando todo rastro de engreimiento (Ahamkara). Al prestar servicio, debe haber un reconocimiento a la omnipresencia de Dios en todos los seres humanos. La mayor parte de la gente no ha desarrollado el espíritu de sacrificio (Tyaga) ni la aversión a los placeres sensoriales (Bhoga). El auténtico servicio pide espíritu de sacrificio. El sacrificio es el único medio de lograr la inmortalidad. Cualquiera sea el trabajo que hagan, como barrer el piso o preparar la cena, conviértanlo en un ejercicio espiritual. Impregnen cada acción con amor a Dios, y
dedíquensela a Él. (Divino Discurso, 23 de marzo de 1989)

 

In every form of spiritual practice (Sadhana) love has the first place. Love is the supreme mark of humanness. Love is God. Live in Love. Start your day with love, fill your day with love, and end the day with love; this is the way to God. You must also engage yourselves in Service (Seva), eschewing every trace of conceit (Ahamkara). In rendering service, there should be recognition of God’s omnipresence in all human beings. Most people have not developed the spirit of sacrifice (Tyaga) or aversion to sensual pleasures (Bhoga). True service calls for a spirit of sacrifice. Sacrifice is the only means to achieve immortality. Whatever work you may do, whether you are sweeping the floor or cooking dinner, convert them into a spiritual exercise. Infuse your every action with love for God and dedicate it Unto Him. (Divine Discourse, Mar 23, 1989)

Desarrollen la cualidad de «Kshama» (autodominio y perdón), y absténganse en todo momento de la dureza en el habla. Sai es el mejor ejemplo de esto. Muchas personas se han permitido la calumnia y la crítica, pero Yo permanezco totalmente inafectado, y adhiero firmemente a lo que considero bueno. También ustedes deben darse cuenta de que si abandonan el autodominio y el perdón, no tendrán paz. Yo estoy siempre en paz, porque soy siempre paciente. Ustedes también deben permanecer así. No se preocupen por cualquier cosa que los demás puedan hacerles. ¿Qué pueden perder por el comportamiento de ellos? Ustedes no tienen idea de su propia fuerza ni de sus propias debilidades. Si recurren a la represalia, sólo empeorarán su propia condición. Por lo tanto, enfrenten con valor tales ataques y no se permitan inquietarse por los mismos. Deben ganarse a
los demás por su autodominio. Hagan del autodominio su aliento vital y su ideal. (Divino Discurso, 14 de enero de 1997)

 

Develop the quality of ‘Kshama’ (forbearance and forgiveness) and refrain from harshness in speech at all times. Sai is the best example of this. Many people have indulged in calumny and criticism, but I remain totally unaffected and adhere firmly to what I deem as good. You too must realize that if you give up forbearance and forgiveness, you will have no peace. I am always at peace, because, I am always patient. You must also remain likewise. Whatever anyone may do to you, do not bother about it. What is it that you lose on account of their behavior? You have no idea of your own strength or weaknesses. If you resort to retaliation, you will only worsen your own condition. So bravely face such attacks and do not allow yourself to get agitated over them. You must win others by your forbearance. Make forbearance your life-breath and your ideal. (Divine Discourse, Jan 14, 1997)
