No te dediques al cultivo ni a la promoción de los deseos e inclinaciones. Este es un proceso interminable de sembrar y cosechar; nunca alcanzarás el contento, y cuando un deseo sea satisfecho, avivará la sed por diez más. No corras tras deseos dudosos ni satisfacciones retorcidas. Todos los caminos que llevan al reino de los deseos son tortuosos y ciegos; sólo es recto el camino que conduce a la senda del Señor. Cultiva la rectitud en cada acción; esto revelará al Uno Mismo Divino. La sencillez te permitirá superar las tres gunas (cualidades). Ninguna Guna debe dominar; todas deben ser domesticadas para llenar el lago de bienaventuranza. Lo que importa es tu bienaventuranza interior, no lo exterior, lo sensorial, lo objetivo ni lo mundano. Si el aplomo o equilibrio interior se mantiene inalterado por los altibajos exteriores, es signo seguro de éxito espiritual. (Divino Discurso,

Do not engage yourself in the cultivation of or the promotion of wants and desires. That is a never ending process of sowing and reaping; you will never reach contentment and one desire when satisfied, will fan the thirst for ten more. Do not run after devious desires or crooked satisfactions. All roads leading to the realm of the senses are tortuous and blind, only the road that leads to the path of the Lord is straight. Cultivate righteousness in every action, that will reveal the Divine Self. Straightforwardness will enable you to overcome the three gunas (qualities). No single Guna should dominate; all must be tamed to fill the lake of bliss. It is your internal bliss that matters, not the external, the sensory, the objective and the worldly. If the inner poise or inner equilibrium is undisturbed by external ups and downs, that is a sure sign of spiritual success.

¡No me digas que estás completamente satisfecho con la ilusión de los placeres mundanos y que la bienaventuranza y la paz no te importan! Créeme, tu naturaleza básica aborrece esta insulsa y monótona rutina de comer, beber y dormir, y está buscando con afán algo que ella sabe que ha perdido, que es el contento, la paz (Shanti). En lo más profundo de sus corazones, todos anhelan la liberación de la servidumbre a lo trivial y temporal, y esto solo se consigue de una forma: con la contemplación del Yo Superior, ¡que es el origen de todo lo que se ve! Sin importar cuán alto pueda remontarse un ave, tarde o temprano buscará aposentarse en la copa de un árbol para disfrutar de la quietud. Así también llegará el día en que incluso los más arrogantes, los más testarudos, los más incrédulos -y hasta
aquellos que afirman que no hay alegría o paz en la contemplación del Señor – tendrán que orar «¡Oh, Señor, concédeme paz, concédeme consuelo, fortaleza y alegría!»

Do not tell me that you are completely satisfied with the delusion of worldly pleasures and do not care about bliss and peace! Trust Me, your basic nature abhors this dull, dreary routine of eating, drinking and sleeping, and is seeking earnestly something which it knows it has lost, which is contentment (Shanthi). In their heart of hearts, everyone craves for liberation from bondage to the trivial and temporary, and this is available at only one shop – the contemplation of the Highest Self, which is the source of all that is seen! However high a bird may soar, sooner or later, it seeks to perch on a tree top, to enjoy the quietness. So too, a day will come, when even the most haughty, the most willful, the most unbelieving and even those who assert that there is no joy or peace in contemplation of the Lord, will have to pray, “Oh Lord, grant me peace, grant me consolation, strength and joy!” [Divine Discourse, Feb 7, 1959]

El intelecto jaranea con discusiones y disputas. Una vez que tú cedas a la tentación de la dialéctica, te tomará un muy largo tiempo escapar de sus cerrojos y disfrutar de la bienaventuranza, por eso debes tener presente las limitaciones de la razón. La lógica debe dar lugar al amor y a la devoción. El intelecto puede ayudarte por un corto trecho durante tu camino hacia Dios, pero el resto es inspirado e iluminado por la intuición. A menudo el egoísmo tiende a alentar y justificar la maldad, y una persona es conducida por el mal camino ¡por su propia razón, si tal cosa es lo que le gusta! Muy a menudo ustedes llegan a la conclusión que quieren alcanzar! La razón puede ser domada solamente con disciplina, mediante la sistemática aplicación del yugo de la compasión, la calma, la tolerancia y el aguante (Dhaya, Shantham, Kshama, Sahana). Entrena
a la razón para que camine con calma a lo largo de pequeños trechos del sendero, y una vez que estés seguro de su docilidad podrás conducirla por el tortuoso camino de las seis tentaciones: lascivia, ira, codicia, ilusiones, orgullo, y celos. (Divino Discurso, 12 Abril 1959).

 

Intellect revels in discussion and disputation. Once you yield to the temptation of dialectics, it will take a very long time for you to escape from its shackles and enjoy the bliss. Hence be aware of the limitation of reason. Logic must give way to love and devotion. Intellect can help you for a little distance along the Godward path, the rest is inspired and illuminated by intuition. And often, egoism tends to encourage and justify the wildness, for a person is led along the wrong path by their very reason, if that is the path they like! You very often come to the conclusion you want to reach! Reason can be tamed only by discipline, by systematic application of the yoke of compassion, calmness, forbearance and endurance (Dhaya, Shantham, Kshama, Sahana). Train it to quietly walk along small stretches of road and after you are confident of its docility, you can take it along the tortuous road of six-fold temptations – lust, anger,
greed, delusion, pride and jealousy. [Divine Discourse, 12 April 1959]

Dios no es atraído por la erudición o sabiduría, la cual no conduce a nada que no sea egoísmo y orgullo. A Dios sólo se lo atrae con pura devoción. Tráeme cualquier problema que tengas, ¡Yo me ocuparé de él y te daré bienaventuranza! Tú corres al templo o a Prashanti Nilayam ¡y anhelas conseguir un Darshan! ¿Qué signo más grande de devoción se precisa que este vivo deseo ? ¡Pero este amor no es suficiente! En realidad no significa mucho, ciertamente. Lo que se precisa es la regulación de ese amor en la forma de Virtud y Servicio. Si tienes éxito en eso, verdaderamente logras algo. La Renunciación y el Amor Divino deberían reverberar la atmósfera, y el silencio como disciplina debería llenar el sitio. Ten el Nombre del Señor en tu lengua, y ante tus ojos la forma del Señor
que hayas escogido. Si te modelas a ti mismo de esta manera, el lugar en el que estés se convertirá en Kashi y tu hogar será Badri. (Divino Discurso, 3 Febrero 1964).

 

God is not attracted by learning or scholarship, which does not lead anywhere except towards egoism and pride. God is drawn only by pure devotion. Bring to Me, whatever troubles you have, I shall take them on and give you bliss! You rush to the temple or Prasanthi Nilayam and crave to get a darshan! What greater sign of devotion is needed than this yearning? But, this love is not enough! In fact, it does not mean much at all! What is needed is the regulation of that Love, in the form of virtue and service. If you succeed in that, you truly achieve something. Renunciation and divine love should reverberate the atmosphere, and silence as the discipline should fill the place. Have the Name of the Lord on your tongue and the form of your chosen Lord before your eye. If you shape yourself this way, the place where you stand will become Kashi and your home will become Badri.
