La devoción es fe, perseverancia, virtud, valentía, entrega, y ausencia de egoísmo. La adoración que se lleva a cabo elaborada y pomposamente es puro desperdicio de tiempo y energía. ¿Por qué arrancar flores y apresurar su muerte ? Puede que estés recorriendo el templo, pero ten en cuenta que mientras tus pies te llevan en tu ronda a fuerza de hábito, tu lengua chismosea las faltas de otros, o habla sobre el precio de las verduras, o sobre los platos que te propones cocinar para el almuerzo. Tales rondas no deben ser efectuadas como si hubieran sido prescriptas para aflojar las extremidades o darles algo de ejercicio. Los sentidos deben ser refrenados y convertidos en obedientes sirvientes del espíritu. Antes de que comiences tus rondas. las que llamas «Pradakshina»,
ofrece tu mente como «Dakshina» (ofrenda de gratitud) al Residente del templo, el Señor. Esa es la
primera cosa a hacer, y quizás también la única cosa a hacer. (Divino Discurso, 25 Enero 1963).

 

Devotion is faith, steadiness, virtue, fearlessness, surrender, and ab¬sence of egoism. Worship done however elaborately and pompously is sheer waste of time and energy. Why pluck flowers and hasten their death? You may be circumambulating the temple, but be aware that while your feet are taking you round by force of habit, your tongue blabbers the faults of others, or the price of vegetables, or the dishes you propose to cook for lunch. Making the rounds is not to be taken as prescribed for loosening the limbs or giving them some exercise. The senses have to be curbed into obedient servants of the spirit. Before you start on your rounds, which you call pradakshina, offer your mind as dakshina (offering of gratitude) to the Resident of the temple, the Lord. That is the first thing to do, and perhaps the only thing to do. (Divine Discourse, Jan 25, 1963)

Se dice que el Señor castiga a algunos y favorece a otros. Permítanme decirles que el Señor no hace ni una cosa ni la otra. Él es como la corriente en este cable eléctrico: hace girar el ventilador y convierte la vida en algo confortable, pero también hace funcionar la silla eléctrica y reduce la duración de una vida. La corriente no tiene el deseo de mitigar el calor ni tampoco tiene ansias de matar. La Gracia de Dios es como el viento: pliega tus velas y el bote se quedará quieto, despliégalas y se moverá rápido y hacia adelante. Un padre lega su fortuna al hijo que respeta sus deseos y obedece sus órdenes, no al otro hijo rebelde que se mofa de él. El Señor es el Padre de todos. Si tú eres un «asthika» (alguien que acepta la existencia de Dios y vive en concordancia) entonces recibirás la «asthi» (la propiedad). A la persona que
no sabe qué es lo que le conviene y no está alerta para evitar tropiezos, no se le confían sus propios bienes; un tutor debe encargarse de sus asuntos hasta tanto demuestre que está capacitado para hacerlo con cuidado. (Divino Discurso, 25 Enero 1963).

 

The Lord, it is said, punishes some and favours others. Let Me tell you, the Lord does neither. He is like the current in this electric wire. It rotates the fan and makes life comfortable; it operates the electric chair and makes a life shorter. It neither has the wish to allay the warmth nor it has eagerness to kill. God’s grace is like the wind. Roll up your sails, and the boat lies limp and lame; unfurl them, and the boat moves faster and further. A father gives his wealth to the son who respects his wishes and obeys his orders, not to the rebel son who flouts him. The Lord is the Father of all. If you are an asthika (one who accepts God’s existence and lives accordingly), then you will get the asthi (property). A person who is ignorant of their true interests, and is unaware of their own downfall, is not entrusted with their own property; a guardian has to take care of his affairs until he proves himself able to manage it with care.

La devoción y la fe son los dos remos con los cuales puedes maniobrar el bote que cruce el mar de la vida mundana. Un niño le dijo a su madre cuando se iba a la cama en la noche : «Madre, despiértame cuando tenga hambre», y ella respondió : «No hay necesidad, chico, ¡tu hambre mismo será quien te despierte»! De la misma forma, cuando el apetito por Dios se presente, será ése hambre quien te active y te haga buscar el alimento que necesitas. Dios te ha dotado de ese apetito y Él te provee la comida; Él te ha enviado un malestar y te provee la medicina. ¡Tu deber consiste en asegurarte que tienes el apetito y el malestar adecuados para usar la comida o medicina apropiadas! Recuerda, el Señor es una Montaña de Amor (Prema); cualquier cantidad de hormigas transportando partículas de dulzuras no podrían agotar Su abundancia de amor. Él es un
Océano de Compasión sin costas que lo limiten. La devoción es la forma más sencilla de ganar Su Gracia. (Divino Discurso, Feb. 1955).

 

Devotion and faith are the two oars with which you can ferry the boat across the sea of worldly life. A child told its mother when it went to bed at night, “Mother! Wake me up when I am hungry.” The mother answered, “There is no need child, your hunger will itself wake you up.” So too, when the hunger for God comes, it will itself activate you and make you seek the food you need. God has endowed you with hunger and He supplies the food; He has endowed you with illness and He provides the medicine. Your duty is to see that you get the proper hunger and the right illness, and use the appropriate food or drug! Remember, the Lord is a Mountain of Love (Prema); any number of ants carrying away particles of sweetness cannot exhaust His plenty. He is an Ocean of Mercy without a limiting shore. Devotion is the easiest way to win His grace. (Divine Discourse, Feb 1955)

Los mandamientos bíblicos declaran: «Habla con la verdad» y «Practica la Rectitud». El Señor Rama se apegó a la verdad a pesar de todas las tentaciones y nunca se desvió de la senda recta. Rama nunca provocó a otro para crear una excusa conveniente para destruirlo; por el contrario, dio al adversario todas las posibilidades de ser salvo. Llevó el mensaje del dharma a los monos y demonios (vanaras y rakshasas), así como a sabios como Jabali. Él aceptó el homenaje de Vibhishana sin poner reparos, y anunció que estaba dispuesto a aceptar incluso a Ravana, aunque sólo si se arrepentía de su iniquidad. La repetición del nombre puro del Señor Rama sólo te salvará si eres amoroso con tus padres, como el Señor Rama. Si no, la repetición del nombre de Rama es simplemente un movimiento de los labios. Medita en la forma y la verdadera
naturaleza de Rama cuando cantas o escribes Su nombre. Esta práctica te hará espiritualmente sano y fuerte. (Discurso Divino, 1 de abril de 1963).

 

The scriptural injunctions declare, “Speak the truth” and “Practice Righteousness”. Lord Rama stuck to truth despite all temptations and never deviated from the righteous path. Rama never provoked another in order to create a convenient excuse to destroy him; on the other hand, He gave the adversary every chance to be saved. He carried the message of dharma to the monkeys and demons (vanaras and rakshasas), as well as to sages like Jabali. He accepted the homage of Vibhishana without demur, and He announced that He was prepared to accept even Ravana, if only he would repent his iniquity. Repetition of Lord Rama’s pure name will save you only if you are devoted to your parents, like Lord Rama. If not, repetition of Rama’s name is merely a movement of the lips. Meditate on Rama’s form and true nature when you chant or write His name. This practice will make you spiritually healthy and strong. (Divine Discourse,
