Había una vez un hombre agonizante que estaba siendo molestado por una gran cantidad de parientes. Padres, esposa, hijos, hermanos, hermanas – todos rodeaban su cama durante sus últimos momentos y se lamentaban. Le preguntaron: «¿Qué nos sucederá?» El moribundo levantó un poco la cabeza de la almohada y preguntó a su vez: «¿Qué me sucederá a mí? Realmente, estoy muy interesado en ese problema, más que preocupado por lo que les sucederá a ustedes». Bueno, es mejor que todos se hagan esa pregunta ahora mismo y obtengan la respuesta en lugar de esperar hasta que sea demasiado tarde. «¿Para qué estoy?» «¿Qué debo hacer?» Estas son las preguntas que deben hacerse y encontrar las respuestas. Todos ustedes son peregrinos, avanzando por esta tierra de acción (Karmakshetra) hacia la meta – la tierra de la rectitud (Dharmakshetra). Los
eruditos, poetas y maestros son guías que les ayudan; pero son ustedes los que deben recorrer el camino, ¡cada centímetro del mismo! (Discurso Divino, 13 de Marzo de 1964).

 

There was once a dying man who was pestered by a host of relatives. Parents, wife, children, brothers, sisters – all surrounded his bed during his last moments and wailed. They asked him, «What is to happen to us?» The dying man lifted his head a little from the pillow and asked in return, «What is to happen to me? I am really very interested in that problem, than being worried about what will happen to you.» Well, it is better everyone asks that question right now and equips themselves with the answer rather than wait until it is too late. «What am I for?» «What ought I to do?» These are the questions you must pursue and arrive at answers. You are all pilgrims, moving along this land of action (Karmakshetra) to the goal – the land of righteousness (Dharmakshetra). Scholars, poets and teachers are guides who help you along; but, the you must tread the road, every inch of it! (Divine Discourse, Mar 13, 1964)

Dios encarna para auspiciar a los sadhus (los nobles o santos), se dice. Por sadhus, las escrituras no se refieren a los habitantes de los retiros del Himalaya; se refieren a la persona virtuosa que forma la realidad interior de cada uno de ustedes, siendo la apariencia exterior nada más que una máscara que se usa para engañarse a sí mismos en la estima. Cada uno de ustedes es un sadhu, porque son prema swarupa, shanti swarupa y amrutha swarupa (encarnación del amor, encarnación de la paz y encarnación de la inmortalidad). Pero al permitir que la corteza del ego crezca espesa y rápida, la naturaleza real se ve empañada. Mediante la acción del satsang (la compañía de los que se inclinan hacia Dios), mediante la disposición sistemática al autocontrol y al auto-perfeccionamiento, se puede superar la ilusión que hace que uno se identifique con el
cuerpo y sus necesidades y antojos. Yama (el Dios de la muerte) puede ser contrarrestado por samyama o el control de los sentidos. Cuando el hombre olvida este hecho y empieza a vivir como un esclavo de los sentidos, Dios, por Su misericordia infinita, viene y lo guía a lo largo del camino celestial hacia Él. (Discurso Divino, 7 de septiembre de 1966).

 

God incarnates to foster sadhus (noble or saintly ones), it is said. By sadhus, the scriptures do not mean the dwellers in Himalayan retreats; they mean the virtuous person who forms the inner reality of everyone of you, the outer appearance being but a mask which is worn to delude yourself into esteem. Everyone of you is a sadhu, for you are prema swarupa, shanti swarupa and amrutha swarupa (embodiment of love, peace and immortality). But by allowing the crust of ego to grow thick and fast, the real nature is tarnished. By the action of satsang (the company of the God-minded), by systematic attention to self-control and self-improvement, one can overcome the delusion that makes one identify with the body and its needs and cravings. Yama (God of death) can be countered by samyama or control of the senses. When man forgets this fact and starts living as a slave of the senses, God, out of His infinite mercy, comes and guides along the heavenly path into
Himself. – Divine Discourse, Sep 7, 1966.

En un brote hay muy poca fragancia. Sin embargo, a medida que crece y florece, adquiere automáticamente una fragancia muy delicada. Del mismo modo, cuando la conciencia humana se expanda, encontrará plenitud en el estado de Sath-chith-ananda (Verdad-Conciencia-Bienaventuranza). Partiendo de la mente ordinaria la conciencia se eleva al nivel de la Super-mente. Luego pasa al estado de la Mente Superior. La siguiente etapa superior es la de la Mente Iluminada. A través de todas estas etapas, la entidad permanente sigue siendo la misma, como sucede en los cambios corporales de la infancia a la vejez. Esa es la Conciencia Universal que está presente en todos – el Uno en los Muchos. La Conciencia Universal es la Verdad (Satyam). Es la Sabiduría Suprema (Jnanam). Es el Infinito (Anantam). Teniendo siempre en cuenta estas tres características de la Divinidad, esfuércense por alcanzar el objetivo supremo de la
vida humana. (Discurso Divino, 16 de febrero de 1988).

 

In a bud there is very little fragrance. However, as it grows and blossoms, it automatically acquires very fine fragrance. Likewise, when the human consciousness expands, it will find fullness in the state of Sath-chith-ananda (Truth-Consciousness-Bliss). Starting with the ordinary mind the consciousness rises to the level of the Super-mind. Then it moves up to the state of the Higher Mind. The next higher stage is that of the Illuminated Mind. Through all these stages, the continuing entity remains the same, as in the bodily changes from infancy to old age. That is the Universal Consciousness which is present in everyone — the One in the Many. The Universal Consciousness is the Truth (Satyam). It is the Supreme Wisdom (Jnanam). It is Infinite (Anantam). Ever bearing in mind these triple characteristics of the Divine, strive to achieve the supreme goal of human life. (Divine Discourse, Feb 16, 1988)
