Piensen profundamente en las funciones de un lugar de adoración, es decir, el templo. Los templos son centros de disciplina, donde el aspirante es guiado paso a paso para alcanzar una visión de la Verdad. Son escuelas para el entrenamiento del espíritu, academias para la promoción de los estudios escriturales, institutos de súper ciencia y laboratorios para poner a prueba los valores de la vida. Son hospitales para el tratamiento y la cura no solo de la «enfermedad de nacimiento-muerte», que ha persistido en el individuo durante eras, sino también para los trastornos mentales, mucho más potentes, que molestan a quienes ignoran el secreto de adquirir la paz. Los templos son gimnasios en los que las personas son reacondicionadas, y en los que se curan su fe vacilante, su convicción menguante y su creciente egoísmo. Los templos son espejos que reflejan modelos y logros
estéticos. El propósito del templo es despertar la divinidad en la humanidad, e inducir a las personas a creer que los marcos físicos en que viven son, ellos también, casas de Dios. (Dharma Vahini, Capítulo 10, «La casa de Dios»)

 

Think deeply over the functions of a place of worship, say, the temple. Temples are centres of discipline, where the aspirant is guided step by step to attain a vision of the Truth. They are schools for the training of the spirit, academies for the promotion of scriptural studies, institutes of super-science, and laboratories for the testing of the values of life. They are hospitals for the treatment and cure not only of the ‘birth-death disease’, which has persisted in the individual for ages, but even the much more potent mental disorders that trouble those who do not know the secret of acquiring peace. Temples are gymnasia where people are reconditioned and their hesitant faith, waning conviction, and upsurging egotism are all cured. Temples are mirrors that reflect aesthetic standards and achievements. The purpose of the temple is to awaken the divinity in humanity, and to induce people to believe that the physical frames in which they
