El apego y el odio son los mayores enemigos del progreso en cualquier plan de servicio social; mejor dicho, en cualquier plan de trabajo. Si alguien se engaña creyendo que está salvando a otros, ¡ay de él! Porque no hay otro, en absoluto. Todos son Uno; la pena de una persona es la pena de todos. El defecto fundamental es la ignorancia de la humanidad. El sabio sabrá que todos los individuos son olas sobre la superficie del mismo mar. La acción desinteresada es el ideal al que hay que apuntar. Pero ahora todo se mide por el resultado, la ganancia que produce. Incluso el estudio se hace por el salario que se podrá obtener en base al título adquirido. Si el acto es efectuado sin deseo egoísta (a la manera nishkama) no hay ningún propósito de buscar ganancias. El deseo de ganancia es como los colmillos venenosos; extirpándolos, la serpiente del karma (el ciclo de
acción y reacción) se hace inofensiva. (Discurso Divino, 15 de septiembre de 1963)

 

Attachment and hatred are the greatest enemies of progress in any scheme of social service, why, in any scheme of work. If a man is deluded into believing that he is saving others, then woe be to him, for there is no other at all. All are One, one person’s sorrow is everyone’s sorrow. The fundamental flaw is the ignorance of humanity. If only one is wise, one would know that all individuals are waves on the surface of the self-same ocean. Selfless action is the ideal to be aimed at. But now, everything is measured by the result, the gain that accrues. Study is also for the salary one can get on the basis of the degree earned. If the act is done without selfish desire (in the nishkama way); there is no aim to seek gain. The desire for gain is like the poison fangs; when they are pulled out, the snake of karma (action and reaction cycle) is rendered harmless. (Divine Discourse, Sep 15, 1963)
