Puede que hayas visto festivales de carrozas («Rathotsavam») en centros de peregrinaje. Enormes carrozas de templos van hermosamente decoradas con banderas y festones, con fornidos grupos de hombres que tiran de ellas por los senderos al compás de gaitas y caracolas, mientras las agrupaciones de bailarines y cantantes los preceden, aumentando el regocijo en la ocasión. Miles se apiñan alrededor de la santa carroza. La atención de estos está dirigida naturalmente hacia el entretenimiento, pero su felicidad máxima se produce cuando juntan las palmas y se inclinan ante el ídolo de la carroza. El resto es todo superfluo, incluso irrelevante. De la misma manera en el proceso de la vida, el cuerpo es la carroza y el Atma es el ídolo instalado en ella. El ganar y gastar dinero, el reír y llorar, el lastimarse y curarse, y las demás variadas acrobacias del diario vivir son solo subsidiarias
de la adoración a Dios y de la unión con Él. (Divino Discurso, 13 Enero 1969).

 

You may have witnessed chariot festivals (Rathotsavam) in pilgrimage centers. Huge temple chariots are gorgeously decorated with flags and festoons, stalwart bands of men draw them along the roads to the music of blowpipes and conches, and dancing groups and chanters precede it, adding to the exhilaration of the occasion. Thousands crowd around the holy chariot. Their attention is naturally drawn towards the entertainment, but they feel happiest only when they fold their palms and bow before the Idol in the chariot. The rest is all subsidiary, even irrelevant. So too in the process of life, body is the chariot, and the Atma is the Idol installed therein. Earning and spending, laughing and weeping, hurting and healing, and the various acrobatics in daily living are but subsidiary to the adoration of God and the union with God.
