Everyone is now seeking comfort and pleasure; that seems to be the be-all and end-all. If you tell people that they can eat whatever they like and as much as they like, they are delighted; if you add that they might develop, as a consequence, some illness or other, they will treat you as an enemy! No regimen or control is popular. But strength is derived only from control, from restraint and regulation. People become tough and capable of endurance only if they welcome hardships. Struggle, and you get the strength to succeed. Seek the basis for the seen in the unseen. The tall skyscraper has a deep base reaching into the earth. This seen world has as its base the unseen Paramathma (Supreme Lord)! Your body is the god-gifted instrument through which you can search, investigate, and discover that base. [Divine Discourse, Nov 23, 1964]
