Para que la sabiduría de los eruditos antiguos surja en cada individuo cuando más la necesita, los mayores deben dar un ejemplo de discernimiento (Viveka) y desapego (Vairagya). Si corren detrás de los placeres sensoriales con febril excitación, ¿cómo se puede culpar a la generación más joven por su egoísmo y codicia? Los mayores deben practicar lo que predican, mostrar de qué forma la vida divina confiere alegría, equilibrio mental, satisfacción y felicidad real. Deben pasar algún tiempo todos los días en recitar el nombre del Señor o en la meditación, entonces los niños también lo asimilarán y adquirirán los medios para alcanzar la paz por sí mismos. Las personas dicen que no hay nada tan dulce como el nombre del Señor, pero no lo repiten en lo absoluto. El camino está estropeado por el
descuido y la destrucción injustificable, pero aconsejan a los niños caminar a lo largo del mismo. Ellos descubrirán el engaño. De hecho, la responsabilidad de cualquier persona que defienda un ideal es grande, porque la persona tiene que intentar alcanzarlo por sí misma mientras aconseja a otros adoptarlo. For the wisdom of the ancient sages to dawn on every individual when they most need it, elders must set an example of discrimination (Viveka) and detachment (Vairagya). If they run after sensory pleasures with feverish excitement, how can the younger generation be blamed for their selfishness and greed? Elders must practice what they preach, show how divine life confers joy, mental poise, contentment and real happiness. They must spend some time every day in reciting the Lord’s name or in meditation, then the children too will imbibe that and acquire the means to attain peace for themselves. People say that there is nothing as sweet as the name of the Lord, but do not repeat it at all. The road is spoilt by neglect and wanton destruction, but they advise the children to walk along it. They will discover the hoax. As a matter of fact, the responsibility of any person who holds forth an ideal is great, for the person has to attempt to reach it
